Today, in the mail, I rec'd a letter with a check for $3,800, stating that I had won $250,000 and should contact the agent at the number given. This is the second such scam letter I've rec'd and the check looks real. Be aware, this is a scam. Upon receiving the first one, I called the state attorney general's office, and they confirmed it's a scam. I looked at the bank name, JP Morgan Chase Bank and looked them up on the Internet. It's a legitimate bank, so I called the number given on the website. A bank person told me they get a lot of calls about this, and it is indeed a scam.
I realize most of you here are smarter than me and would recognize this as a scam in a minute, but just thought I'd share in case any of you have rec'd such mailings!

You know, I think it appeals to our wish to win, our gullible nature, and in my case, the need for increased income! Who couldn't use $3,800, and much moreso, $250,000. I suspect an elderly person or someone in dire straits might cash the check that arrives in the mail. I've read that doing so causes a lot of problems!

I think you should also take it to the Postmaster, as it's illegal to send such stuff through the mail. They will track it down and perhaps stop it.

You should put yourself onto the listing to prevent receiving such unsolicited mail. (It's similar to the no call phone listing.)

Glad you didn't fall for it.
