There is a popular email scam where someone claiming to have a large sum of money stashed away by a deposed leader of a country, offering a part of it if you will help them by converting it to US dollars (I've often seen this as someone from Nicaragua whose husband was killed and she can't cash the money herself because the rebels or government are after her.)

I just received such a thing in my PM mailbox, no mention of a reward but the same deal... large some of money and they need someone to represent them in order to cash it. Undoubtedly if you offer to help, they will ask for some cash from you for legal fees, or "good faith" money, or something, and promise that once their bond is cashed they will give you a good portion of the nine million dollars they are inhering.

Just wanted to post a warning for some of you who may be new to the internet... THIS IS A SCAM, do not contact them, do not give them your contact information, and never ever ever give them any money.

Dave, in your PM box? Here?? Warning: Internet Scam

I've been getting them in my email for years now. I just report it as spam.

This is a good site to check for hoaxes: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp?>http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp?</A>

isn't there some way to notify the local Police sincenow the Terrorism protection act forbids this and can act upon it. (I think because it could be terrorists behind the solicitations of monies.)

Yes, in my PM box here. Obviously someone registered here to put this scam up, once registered they have access to PM us as well so it isn't that surprising...

It is surprizing though that someone would go to the trouble to register here to do this. Not many people go for these, but with email they can send tens of thousands of emails out and if only 1% respond they've made a nice wad of cash. A place like this with limited membership, and requiring someone to post manually, hardly seems worth it. Maybe we got a real amateur here Warning: Internet Scam.

Unless there is some way to register and post things automated, through a program script or something, but I do think that is rather unlikely. If it were possible I think we'd see and/or here about it.

Hopefully DocJohn can do whatever is appropriate, maybe report them if he has the time. At the very least ban them from here.

HUH! Wonder how many people got that PM? I didn't get one, lucky me! LOL Now watch! I'll get one. Warning: Internet Scam

The PMs don't have the little icon to click on when you receive something like that, do they? They should!
