I've been having difficulty finding a hairstylist that really knows how to cut naturally curly hair. I met a woman at a party who has natural wavy hair. So, I asked her for the phone number of her hairstylist. She gave me her phone number and told me to call her so that she can call her stylist, and agree on a meeting day. But when I finally did, she stated terms that I am wary of. Like leaving my car parked in a bookstore's parking lot, and giving me a ride to the hairstylist's home. This is the first time that I am doing this. I am scared. Has anyone had a similar experience? I would appreciate some feedback. Thank You.

Hi Psychee~
I am a former cosmetologist myself. This sounds kinda odd to me having you go thru all that. I would be suspicious of this. I dont know if she has been in trouble before doing hair out of her home or what. She may be doing this as a precaution so she doesnt lose her license. But still it doesnt really add up. I wish I knew what to tell ya. I know your hair needs a special touch with being naturaly wavey and all. But I just cant see why all this needs to be done. Maybe ask your friend about it? See if you can get any reassurance that way? Wish you the best. Sorry I can offer anymore to it.

Take care and be safe
Beth

I don't understand? Sounds kind of "clandestined!" Maybe since it's in her home, she doesn't want to be taxed for her services...That's the only thing I can think of!
Hope it turns out alright for you.
I have such an unusual hairline, and have had such difficulty with hair stylists, I've learned to cut my hair myself!
It's not that hard, really. My daughter does the same. My mother was a beautician, so I watched her, and have watched the stylists as well. You need a good pair of scissors, and perhaps a pair of thinner shears.

Hello Beth,
I'll ask my friend and see how she responds. If she gives me evasive answers, I wont go through with it. Besides, if someone steals my car while I am at her hairstylist's home, I will have so much hassle to deal with that I normally wouldn't.

Thank you for your advice, Beth.

Very strange. Why can't you drive your own car to her place?

Hello Seeker1950 (Patty),
Yep, those are the terms that "my friend" stated without giving me any explanations as to why it has to be this way. I agree. It appears to be clandestined. Maybe that's why I feel fear. I am gonna be very careful in handling this situation.
I also thought about cutting my own hair some years ago. Maybe I will, if I don't find any reliable professional where I live.

Thank You,
Psychee

Strange indeed. She wouldn't give me any explanation. She realized that my native language is Spanish. So, she started practicing her Spanish in a way that distracted me from thinking clearly about the terms of business of her stylist.

Hey everyone,

I just called "my friend" a total of 5 times to tell her that I wont go through with going to her hairstylist's home, and she won't pick up neither her cell phone nor her home phone number. Weird. Help, I am new to going to hairstylist's home for a haircut.

Sounds to me like she may not even have a license....& is afraid of getting caught for practicing as a licensed beautitian. She may have had complaints against her or a law suit against her.....so she is practicing out of sight.

I would have been really worried if part of the requirements was to be blindfolded on the drive there too.....lol. Honestly, if I didn't know more about the person....I wouldn't let anyone like that touch my naturally curly hair. Just don't show up....& tell her, you tried to get in touch with her to tell her, but couldn't.....so what? You will find someone else that can handle the naturally wavy hair. Don't sweat it, but it would be interesting to find out the truth about why she is doing business that way.

You can find the list of licensed people on the internet.....not sure how to find that out where you are, but check her out on the internet.....you might find out something about the person....that is if you even know her name. Without knowing more, I wouldn't even get involved in a situation like that......just don't show up.

Thats my suggestion,
Debbie

You don't need to worry about this. Just don't go. You tried to contact your friend and she was unavailable. People cancel hair appointments with legitimate stylists all the time.

Hi Debbie,

You're right. I am not going to get involved with the friend and her hairstylist of questionable reputation. While we were at the party, "my friend" didn't even want to tell me the hairstylist's name or phone number. From that conversation, I got the idea that the stylist worked in a salon. Later when I spoke with her yesterday, "my friend" said the stylist worked from her home. And again, she would not disclose the stylist's phone number or where she lives.
I've only met this woman once. So I cannot trust that she is being honest.

Thank you Debbie for your kind words.

Exactly. I don't have to worry since I was being considerate by trying to contact her. She promised to call me back today by 4:30pm, but then she forgot?

Good point. My choice of words are rather interesting. Reflecting on this, I revealed too much personal stuff to her. But she didn't. Seems like I was expecting that she would become my friend.
I am not happy with the current haircut I got, but that I don't have to get so desparate to the point of asking the first stranger with wavy hair for their hairstylist's contact information.

I want to thank you Beth, Patty, Raynaadi, bebop, and eskielover. You guys gave the support I needed in a time of much confusion and fear.
I am relieved that I didn't get a call from the strange acquaintance.

Psychee,

You are welcome.....sometimes we have gut feelings about something not being quite right....it is hard to act of gut feelings because we so hope that they are wrong. That is the good thing about PC is that we can state our gut feelings & the support is there so that we can realize we need to act on those gut feelings. That little bit of extra support is enough to help us know that those gut feelings we have are right.

Glad everything just passed you by, but don't feel that you should have done it even if you had been called back. The important thing is to relize that when something doesn't feel comfortable to you.....there is a reason....even if it is unknown. Go with those feelings because they really do protect us most of the time.

Glad it all worked out well in that you didn't have to not go anyway,
Debbie
