I went to Great Clips today to get my hair cut. They totally screwed it up. I don't have pictures yet, but I might tomorrow. I asked for long layers in the back, and taper it in the front. Just like I always get. I thought it was somewhat simple.

Well, she made the layers in the back WAY too short, and really scruffy kinda. Not what I wanted. Now I have basically chin-length hair with a few strands that are 6 inches longer. And really straggly. Yikes.

By the time I realized what she had done it was too late to fix it.

Bad haircut - grrr!

Oh no Raz, I hate bad haircuts. Could you give them a call today to let them know there is some issues and they may offer to correct it free of charge. I had that done once with a color treatment.

Aw, that really stinks, when it's really screwed up it takes so long to grow back. I have really thick hair and they tend to reach for the razor or thinning sheers UM NO, looks ok when I leave but if you don't keep it up you just look like a shaggy mess. But I had the hair style you're describing my senior year in high school. I had a BOEC competition the next day, I called another sylist crying, she let me come to her house, but there was nothing she could do but cut off those 6 strands.

I had a friend from high school cut my hair for the longest time, she was awesome, I went through a stage where I wanted it short and easy without looking like a man. She cut it so it had so much body, shower, fingers through hair done, and it looked great. It was actually kind of buzzed a couple of inches, but the crown was longer. Her replacement tried to follow it, but she couldn't get it straight, so she kept cutting and cutting, I was almost bald when I turned around and saw how much she'd cut off! Enough, leave it! That was the last carefree hairstyle I've ever had.

Oh I feel much better today. I went to a different salon to get it fixed, and she did an EXCELLENT job. She even said that the layers were "done weird"...so it's not just me, I think the first girl I went to just barely graduated beauty school.

Now it looks cute - a bit shorter than I intended, but cute. Yay!!

And I think I found me a good stylist too. That's good. I just moved here so I've just been going to Great Clips or whatever, not getting the same person. But I liked her so I think I'll stick with her!

Oh so glad it's fixed now.

The latest style is the chopped look, and I didn't want it for myself... had to insist with (my regular) hairdresser to give me smooth layers. He still didn't do it as smooth as I wanted, but he will next time! Bad haircut - grrr! Otherwise, I got a great cut. (I really don't like the chopped look, as any 3 year old can cut that way Bad haircut - grrr! )

Being a former cosmetologist I can tell you that if this girl did just graduate.. she was probably nervous. BUT they also should have done training on the floor at whatever school she went to. If they didnt that is very poor training.

Second of all.. I've learned that most cosmetologists that work at places such as great clips, Regis Salons( and I did work there for 2 yrs) Are usually beginners in the field. And basically you do get what you pay for at those places. Its always your best interest to go to an independent salon. You will get your more experienced cosmetologists there. I worked for one for 10 yrs before I had to quit due to physical problems.

Another tip... pictures.. bring pictures. When in doubt of how to explain things or in making sure of what you want in a haircut, color, perm... bring a picture to talk it over with your cosmetologist. And I know sometimes we could be pushy when selling product too, but really we are advising you the best for your hair type and what style you want. Even some " choppy" haircuts can be tamed with some smoothing creme. Myself.. I like " choppy" . It goes with my personality I think lol. I like being stylish, not too prude looking lol, unpredictable, and fun. Thats what " choppy" is to me . I'm always up for trying new things with my hair. Except the exremee stuff.. like green, bright reds and purples and pinks and blues lol. I do have a bit of a hard time with that stuff. But for younger people.. Why not?!?! I do think its a fun and creative route to go if you like that sort of thing.

Ohhh and Tim.. if I could.. I'd give you half of what I got on my head... LOL. Maybe Orange Blossoms mom will loan you some Miracle Grow?

Oh, and I didn't even really tell the girl at Great Clips that I didn't like the haircut. I'm kinda weird that way...I don't like to insult people or criticize. They did a GREAT job on my daughter (we both got cut the same time). So...yeah. If she was a beginner, I gave her some slack. I don't want her to feel bad.

The second time, yeah, I looked in their haircut style books and gave her two pictures to go from. I think that helped.

I agree totally. I'm sorry to hear that. The only positive thing is it'll grow back, but takes a little while.

I had my first and last visit at The Hair Butchery....She was so distracted with her cell phone calls and lunch break, I actually had a visible hole in the hair on the side of my head.

Funny thing is, I got a much better haircut last month at the beauty college. They were doing a "cuts for cancer" event and all the proceeds went to the cancer fund. The student I got did a really good job. But this time - yikes! Oh well...my hair does grow fairly fast, and the shorter length is good for summer anyway.
