So I moved into my girlfriends moms house (only for a short period) and here step dad and mom fight constantly to the point of yelling and almost always gets pyshical. Well I've noticed that I've been more on edge, more sensitive as well as moody. I usually am a little sensitive and moody (I have ADHD) but not THIS much. I've been so afraid to take dishes out of my room because I feel uncomfortable being in the same room as her step dad and for some reason, when my girlfriend asks me to do something I get super sensitive. I guess maybe I just don't want her thinking I'm going to become like her step dad (being lazy and not doing anything all day) I don't know, but do you think the living environment could be effecting me?

I have a little experience in this area, and I can assure you that your environment can have a powerful effect on your moods, ability to cope and regulate your behaviour.
I am sorry you feel caught up and stuck in what sounds like an unhealthy environment, really hope you are able to find someplace else soon. Take care.

It certainly can have a negative affect on you. Living with my ex-husband for 24 years affected me to the point of being hospitalized and being depressed all the time. I think it was the trigger to all my depression and now it's chronic. Maybe, maybe not, but I know it affects a person.

Stress affects us, not only psychologically, but physically; the mind body connection. Every time we are under stress the body releases cortisol; cortisol damages the immune system.

Of course it does. Environment is a huge trigger.

i believe your environment definately affects your mood and problems if it is a good or bad environment. Anxiety especially with a bad environment.

The environment you're in can have a definite impact on your mental health. It can trigger all sorts of problems, especially if there is constant abuse going on.

I hope you find a much more stable, peaceful place to live too. I think that anywhere where there is constant quarreling , or any other disturbance can be rough to one's peace of mind. Either you didn't state of I missed on your post if the noise level is keeping you up at night. By up I mean awake. I know from personal experience constant noises can make me feel really grumpy all day. on edge all day. I feel for you.
