I don't subscribe to text messages so it costs me even to read them.

I got one last night and wondered what was up.

I opened it and it was spam like in an email for a "date-sex" website. I was livid.

I know that ppl can go online and text phones and they must've done it thru the nextel site.

i'm contacting nextel, but has anyone else seen this?

KD

Hey KD,
You can put your cell phone on that do not call list just like your regular phone at https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx
I'm not sure if it would apply to text messages as well, but I would think it might? Maybe worth a try. Spam text on cell phone Spam text on cell phone

I think all they need is your phone number so if any of your friends, anyone at all, has your phone number they can use it; like an e-mail account. I don't know that Nextel can do anything about it. Text messaging has nothing to do with "options" but whether your phone is able to send/receive; whether you subscribe or not. It's exactly like a regular call, just "text" sent to that phone number. I'd see if you could get a "cheaper" phone that does not have the option to receive text messages though I don't know that they make them anymore. But any tom, ****, or harry that has someone else's cell phone "address" list where your number is listed. . .

That's the first I heard of that - I've never gotten spam. But I did put my number on the do not call list.

If you don't use text messages you can have it disabled on your account. I didn't know I could do that and when my niece wracked up $40 in text messages on her phone I found out!

True they should be able to make it so that you can't even get texts.

I just got on the no call list for home and cells about two weeks ago and they said to give it a month.

A text coming in doesn't cost me...it only costs me if I open it, so that was on me. Spam text on cell phone

I'd just never heard of a thing and it frustrated me...lol.

Thanks, guys!

The only complete way to turn off text messaging on a nextel phone is to actually remove what's called sms, unless this has changed since I worked for nextel customer care.

Sms(short message service) is on most if not all cell phones today. Now the problem with turning it off completely is that it also is what allows your voicemail alerts to come up when you get a message.

Sometimes if you are getting alot of messages changing your phone number will help, or temporarily turning off the sms feature and then reactivating it in a week or two can help.

I remember we used to have a heck of a time helping people who kept getting spammed because there really werent alot of options for us to use.

Definetly call in to customer care and let them know however.

I have t mobile and all I did was call them (611) and tell them I had received such a message and they put me on the no spam listing for cellular phones. That stopped it (text messages, that is.) I have been on the no spam with the government, but it appears the text messaging had found a loop-hole, that now you can fix too. Good riddens! Spam text on cell phone

Try that first (call 611 and complain.)

I used to get calls from a number that showed on my caller ID as 000-000-0000! At first it tripped me and my brother out big time, because that was the number I left programmed in my phone for my Dad after he passed away. But they would never leave a voice message. So one day I finally got curious, and called back from the incoming calls, and it was a solicitor, an advertising agency! I couldn't figure out how they got my cell phone number, because it's not listed. Just like your cell phone # isn't listed for spam,or any other texting! So while I had them on the phone,I told them not to call back, and to put me on their do not call list! And I haven't heard from them since! So I think the Do Not Call list is a good idea!
But it's still weird getting spam through a text message! That would trip me out!Spam text on cell phone Spam text on cell phone Spam text on cell phone
