Maybe this belongs in Health, I dunno....but now it's not just businesses and politicians who call with "prerecorded" messages -- I am recently dx'd diabetic and I just got one of those messages at WORK phone spam saying "We've heard you or someone you know was recently dx'd diabetic. You can get your supplies for FREE!" blah blah blah. I hung up.

No matter what kinds of these calls you get, how do you get rid of them? This one was obviously targeted -- I don't know where they got my name -- I'd think it'd be illegal to get it from my doctor or ins. co.! Politicians and businesses just random-dial.

I *never* send in registration cards, and I got my glucose meter, etc for free from the dr., so they couldn't have found me that way.

I don't think we can add our business lines to our state's "do not call" list. phone spam

GRRRR.

How frustrating! With the Hippa laws I'm surprised that they can release this type of information! And haven't these people figured out that automated calls just make you mad?

Unfortunately people don't care how annoying they are.

When I was in telemarketing (do NOT ever get into that) there were rules to the calls. You had to hear the word "no" 3 times before you were allowed to end the call. I got fired quickly because to me when someone says "no" then that's it...no pushing the topic. Or maybe I'm just more respectful than most people....

i have heard that anytime that you sign up for something whether it be a credit card or cable, anything in your name or the businesses' some companys have the right to solicit your phone number. they will sell it to other companies that is.

I keep my answering machine on and monitor it when I am home, only picking up the telephone when I want to. Many callers don't even bother to continue the call when they hear the message.

I worked for a telecommunicating company for a very short period. Where I worked the person had to give you two firm NOs or tell you take me off of your calling list before we could leave them alone. Also we could not remove them from the list unless they asked to be removed and after we confirmed there phone number. If people just said take me off of your call list and hung up before the number was confirmed we could not take them off the list. I always felt so horrible. Also even if your name is on the national do not call list everyone should be advised that political and not-for-profit calls are exempt from this law. I don't know why and think its stupid. But the political and fundraising people can still call.
