I think pets are a great idea for those who can have them. I do find the joyfulness of animals uplifting, unfortunately H is severely allergic to animals so we can't have them.

I think people feel like this because it is true. But also I do get frustrated that society hasn't come up with anything for mid life. For instance I would like to go back to college or do a 5 year sabbatical to travel the world before I am too old to. But there is no mechanism to make that happen. Indeed I am kind of trapped until I reach retirement to get a pension.

I have been watching the show "no tomorrow" and I kind of want to make a list of the things haven't done and check them off... but I get scared if I do... I won't be able to do them.

So true! It seems that society has very little room for those of us in mid-life.
