No idea where to put this, but it's bothering me and I wonder if other people have the same thing happen to them.
I consistently get people telling me that I am weird. Not in a mean way, just in a ... I don't know what way. The people who tell me that I am weird to my face are the people who like me. The ones who don't keep their distance. Anyway, I am annoyed because after all these years (approaching 40), I still don't really understand WHY people say that. They do not believe me when I ask them what I do that is weird and tell them that I don't understand. My boyfriend last night told me that I 'went out of my way to be weird' which is so far from the truth - I am trying to seem as normal as I can stand/figure out, but apparently other people think I am doing it intentionally???? Does anyone else have this happen? I don't really think there is anything I can do, the disconnect between what other people perceive as normal and what I think they see as normal seems to be quite vast. |

I was told i was weird one time because i was dancing on a dance floor by myself. I guess it was weird, but the music which i loved was on. I guess most people wouldn't do such a thing but i was having the time of my life and i the end others started dancing too.

I once had someone tell me I say things other people only think about.
While traveling, I typically want just a pit stop when others want a rest stop...and vice-versa. If someone mentions a problem, I want to stop everything else and concentrate on nothing but that even when everyone else would just set it aside and move along for now. Different, unusual, weird or whatever, those of us in that kind of minority sometimes need to become more adaptable in order to not seem disturbing to others.

...and if we blow too hard, others call us blow-hards, yes?!

I am one of the weird ones, have always been told that, but people do tend to like me,regardless.
I used to hate being called weird, but now I just take it as meaning I am just one of those that doesn't follow the crowd, doesn't try to be like everyone else,I have my own unique thoughts and opinions, and maybe that's not a bad thing. I would much rather be weird than a sheep. |

People have called me weird in the past but I don't much care anymore. I march to the beat of my own drum. I'm a unique snowflake....flake being the operative word here

Ha ha, I am the wind of change!
I would rather be weird than 'normal,' but I would also like to understand what normal is. And I'm just SO TIRED of people telling me I am weird when I think I've been completely normal with them. |

I'm weird too...we should start a "weird" group...lol.
My kids actually have called me "crazy lady" since they were old enough not to have to call me Mom. I think when my grandchildren would get confused about which grandmother they were supposed to go visit...my kid probably said you know the "crazy grandma". Next time they say you are weird...and it bothers you...say - weird according to what? |

Maybe you could try asking them what they mean, and what is their definition of normal? People say the same thing to me and I don't get it either, but I don't get most people and most people don't get me...and I'm learning to accept that.

I have never been called weird but I certainly feel it. I cna usually blend it quite nicely but somehow I FEEL it. What is normal anyway? And who wants to be it?
Just embrace it. You are beautiful, special and wonderful just the way you are. Weird or no weird.

In retrospect, do these people seem different to you? If you are unlike them, would you describe them as odd? How would you in fact describe them? Are their traits ones you wish you had or aspire to? And, my big question, to what extent does this bother you this label?
Perhaps you might closely observe those around you for their own actions and behaviors and compare them to your own traits. It is likely you will end up celebrating your differences and who you are. |
