Does anyone have a spyware program that STOPS the tracking cookies rather than just removing them? Ad-Aware removes them just great, but it doesn't STOP them from attaching themselves. By the time you get around to removing these cookies, the other end already knows your email address! Anti-Spyware Innoculator I want to STOP them!

Any suggestions? I wouldn't mind paying a one time fee for the software... as long as it isn't too much.

The best program that I know of is called ZoneAlarm. It's easy to install, you just have to answer few questions during installation, and anytime something tries to access your computer it alerts you and gives you the option of allowing or disallowing. I've used it for years and it's never failed me yet!

Go to http://www.zonealarm.com and look for Zone Alarm antispyware

Good luck!

"O. C. D." How did I do, Jan? Anti-Spyware Innoculator

Nah... I don't think you're OCD on this. I've got the regular AOL anti-spyware stuff, I've got McAffee and Ad-Aware. I've also had Spybot but I didn't like it. Anti-Spyware Innoculator

Afraid to sound stupid, but what is AVG? Anti-Spyware Innoculator

I use a Macintosh computer. I also use a hardware firewall. I have had no problems with spyware or any other kind of nastinesses.

Anti-Spyware Innoculator

But this thread should probably go in the Software and Support forum.

AVG is antivirus software that used to be a free download. This year they upgraded it and sell it for $65 for a year's worth of protection. It's anti everything and it runs continuously so that it finds and fixes things while you're online. In my opinion, it's much better than McCaffee and Norton, and I've tried them both.

You can download it from the net and then they mail a disc to you.

Hugs,

Jan

I use AVG ( a free version ) and have always been happy. Norton did not work well for me at all!

I do run ad-aware occassionaly but have a very good internet sweeper that I use a couple of times a day.

UMPH! See, that's more than I'm willing to pay for even a permanent program... and to pay that for just one year?? Yikes!

I've used Norton, too, and didn't like it. McAfee will let me know when someone tried to hijack my browser of if there was an attempt to install a virus. Definitely like McAfee much better than Norton!

I thought I was in good shape with Ad-Aware until it dawned on me that those tracking cookies are still getting the job done even if I wipe them out at the end of each day. They're still getting my email address and Jerry's, too. Spam is bad enough without the dang cookies!

In the span of one week, Jerry has gotten FOUR fake emails from eBay saying that they are about to have cancelled his account for illegal transactions. No such thing!! He's sent eBay each of the letters and each time, they've told him it wasn't from them and that he's a member in good standing. They call it "spoof email." I think it's worse than "spoof"!!
