I am currently worried about my state of mind. It feels like pretty much every thought I have is either framed as a conversation with someone else or has an audience who I am speaking to. I also behave recklessly and impulsively often. I am pretty depressed atm but I feel like I have an understanding of that. I have only realised this thought thing recently and the internet seems to make it sound like a serious mental health problem. I dont think I hear things that aren't there and am generally not paranoid. I just would like a better understanding of this.

Having an inner voice of our conscious running commentary on our lives is one thing but having conversations is indicative of a problem; one that could very well be serious.

A great start would be to talk about this with your family physician. They may find that this needs to go no further but they would also be a good gauge for if more specialized help is required. They would then make a referral to a psychiatrist.

Another option is if you have an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) for your work. This is not to be confused with the insurance plan. It is a tool for obtaining resources like locating therapists, providing a listening ear, etc. Mine provided me several free consultations in addition to sending me a package of books, workbooks, and other resources.
