The author claims that psychoanalysis or psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy is superior to all other forms of psychotherapy:
https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...-gold-analysis My comment: I think it is probably true, if the analyst has a good grasp on his or her own mental state.

I'm inclined to agree with this article.
I've long since noticed that psychologists telling people how to think and prescribing somebody a bunch of medicines; many which include negative side effects far worse than what they're supposed to treat, is accomplishing little more than what would happen if you gave somebody an Asprin for a brain tumor. I guess if I ever end up paying money for therapy, I will either get this model of therapy; even if it costs more or I won't waste my money at all. |

I agree. I do think psychoanalysis is a superior type of therapy. The obstacle is the expense.

Psychodynamic therapy ruined my life. But I guess that is part of the therapy actually. It aims to destroy you to build a new and better you. Just too bad I couldn't be rebuilt.
I should add that most therapy called psychodynamic or analytic these days is not the real thing but a much more humane and milder version.

Sometimes psychoanalysis is the only model that will result in a person being able to move forward. I spent 10+ years in psychotherapy due to torture trauma, where my Psychiatrist dismantled my psyche. It was a long process, but ultimately yielded positive results. Finding an experienced analyst who is invested is all important...the expense can be high, so be sure to find a good one from the get go.

I think therapy must apply to the person and the causes of feeling unwell. It is bizarre but accepted to put someone traumatized in here and now therapy, when they need to process the past. It was equally bizarre to put me, an ASD "sufferer" in psychodynamic therapy and believe I would come out normal. The first example happens a lot. The second still happens in France.
You must be an expert not to understand that the approaches to trauma vs something you're born with have to be different. But psychiatry believes blindly in ONE cure for ALL. And they say I'm insane... Sidenote, true analysis does not accept trauma, it says it can't happen but you make it up in your mind. But a more polished version that does accept trauma can of course be useful. Especially if certain steps are skipped like bizarre symbols like the spider is your mom and stuff like that. As for things like OCD, it is proven that practicing with a knowledgeable and supportive behavioral therapist is the best. It simply depends on what the issue is. Something I am quizzical of in all therapies is when the therapist becomes your only friend. Sadly it happens. I feel that everyone is in need of real friends and you cannot be healthy without a social context. Unfortunately, much more effort is put in online dating, the world would be a better place if you could find friends that way as easily but being alone is sort of taboo. Another thing is when therapy upsets people to the point they must go to forums and sort of have therapy for their therapy. That shouldn't have to happen, right?

I do not find it any easier than he did, to stand up for my ideas in the face of so much opposition -- even within my own mind.
