My husband called me from the ranch where I have my horses boarded in California. I found out that the daddy (stallion) of my filly (Izzy) died from colic earlier today. He was always such a special boy.....not the typical stallion. I would walk into the field to take care of my mare & he would always come up to me & nuzzle my sholder. He was a huge 17'3" hand high horse (1 hand = 4 inches).

When the owner of the ranch decided to purchase Allisando, I became a part owner & had several breedings from him. Izzy was my last successful breeding. He turned out the sweetest babies. All the foals out of him have been awsome, with the nicest personalities.

I just can't believe he's gone. I know things like this happen with horses & it's just part of the farm life, but I get so personally involved with all the critters....maybe I'm really not cut out for this farm thing since I get so attached to all the critters....it's hard to loose anyone.

I remember last year when Izzy coliced. I was trying so hard to keep her from laying down & rolling (that's when the intestines get twisted & causes them to die....especially if it's too late to get them to a horsie hospital for surgery). I would walk her around & around & then she would try to lay down....sometimes I just couldn't keep her from doing that & then she would lay there with the grunting sound of a tummy ache.

It's the most helpless feeling because horses are so big, it's almost impossible to stop them from doing what they want.

The sad thing is that just the day before I left on my drive to Kentucky, the mare who just had the last foal from Allisando died from colic (only 2 weeks ago). I wasn't as close with her, but that was sad too, leaving her 2 month old foal alone without a mommy.

Having horses isn't an easy thing.....it seems there is always something wrong. Izzy came down with strangles when I moved her from the other ranch (something she picked up there). It's a lymph node that gets infected & then breaks open & drains. Just as she was getting over it, she came down with it again & so did my older horse. They are both on the way to getting better & now this happened with Allisando.

I am crushed, by this sad news.....just had to let it out,
Debbie

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear stallion. I know it is breaking your heart. Horses are such wonderful creatures and to loose a special one like him is difficult.

My prayers to you and your horse family....may he rest in peace.

Oh, Debbie! I'm so sorry! I am so sad It's not farm life, Hon. Death is a part of life. If it isn't a pet, it's a friend or a family member. The more you love, the more you stand to lose. But if we didn't love, look at all the beauty and satisfaction we'd lose, too!

Hang in there, Hon! I am so sad

I am so so sorry you have lost your stallion. I have been around horses from when I was eight years old and I know all too well what it is like to lose a beloved animal. My pony had colic and we managed to save his life, walking all hours around the paddock to stop him from rolling (he was only 12.2) a lot easier with a pony. Colic is a horrible horrible thing and I'm sending you a hug and lots of love, You have wonderful memories of him, treasure those and remember he will be free of pain and watching over you as I believe....

Horses are so special, so intelligent and loving, I'm so sorry, all my love, Jinnyann xoxoxoxoxoxo

I am so sad Oh ((((Eskie)))) That is so sad. I am so sad

Yes, being the caretakers of God's good animals can sure be tough. But I believe He gave them to the earth because HE enjoyed them so! You are blessed for taking care of them. I'm sorry that includes such heartbreak as this.

I'm so sorry. Losing a beloved animal is never easy, and to lose a couple so close together must be especially hard.

I'd try to remember all the good times you had with the horses and know that you gave them the best life that you could.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((Debbie))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) I am so sorry of your loss. Animals become family members and when something happens it is very sad. And to have one taken away so suddenly and not being able to be there with him may make it harder. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you for your kind thoughts, Sabby, Tomi, Jinnyann, Silver_queen, bebop, sky, splitimage, bipolar_bear, fuzzy, Patty, MentalPollution, Wickedwings, candybear, & chalmette.

I know that as time passes, the sadness turns to other thoughts & enjoyment of the other horses. I feel so bad for my trainer...as she was the owner of these horses....I was just the tagalong part owner of the Allisando. The personalities of these horses is amazing...it is so hard to loose these babies.

I have been around many horses that have had to be put down from the very old to one of my foals that only made it to 2 weeks old. The sadness never ends & I pray that I never "get used to it". I don't ever want to loose the personal closeness that is would take to "get used to it". Knowing that is hurts, but there are others in need of love & care...keeps one going when things like this happen...but it doesn't lessen the pain at the time.

Thanks again,
Debbie

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. People often become so involved with their animals that they become another member of the family, and it is devestating to lose one. As much as it hurts, remember the good times. The good memories are always there. also remember that he lives on through Izzy.
