Does anyone actually believe in happiness?

Most of the time i feel as if there is no such thing. Not in the permanent way anyways. We catch glimpses of it here and there, and then people just mesh those ideas all together in hopes that one day they will experience it long enough to hold on to it just a little while. To look it in the eye and say “aha! You’re mine.” So they can then proceed to tell other people, who intern do the same thing, and everyone is stuck in this misleading vicious cycle in the pursuit of something that is truly unobtainable.

Am I completely off? Please say i am. I need something to strive towards.
Happiness?

Happiness is a choice. You can decide in any situation whether to be happy about it or not.

My job frustrates the crap out of me, but I have one. = happy
Somebody else raised my son, but I have contact with him now, and a good relationship. = happy

Those are just two examples, but hopefully you get the idea. You can whine about how bad it is, or look for and focus on the good points instead. There isn't anything in life that is all good or all bad.

Sorry, Jacq. To me it sounds like you're looking for answers so I'm not going to disregard. I heard once that the word happiness comes from the root word happen. So happiness only comes to you when something happens to make you that way. It's not a permanent thing.

So, ever since then, I strive for contentment. That can be made a constant by looking for all the good in whatever happens. If nothing happens then you can maintain your contentment. Happiness?

Hope that helps.

The sad thing about happiness is that is comes to an end, always! It ends when the inevitable happens. Just what kind of a sick cruel world is this that we've been introduced to? Calling it a horror movie would be a slight understatement.

I apologise for this post, I'm just depressed is all.

Blaming others or the whole world in general isn't going to get it. I'm sorry. Your life consists of what you bring into it yourself.

Hope you can get your depression under control instead of letting it control you. Depression is a great LIAR. Happiness?

(((((Perna))))))- Thanks for the article link! I love reading things like that ... they have this way of making me feel silly for not thinking about it that way (but not getting me down on myself), and showing how simple life can be if we just get down to the basics.

((((((Fuzzy))))))- thanks for the kind words, and sorry i haven't been around here much as of late. Life has been a tad hectic .. but i'm doing my best.

((((((((((((((theirfailedproject)))))))))) Don't appologize for how you feel. Read that article...

((((((((((septembermorn)))))) Happiness?

I believe in happiness. I'm happy right now. I don't have the best life, I'm almost 26, I still haven't graduated, I still live with my parents and I don't have many friends or a boyfriend, but I'm happy.

I love life.

I have a crappy job that pays badly, but it still makes me feel good to do well in my job.

I'm happy and content.

I believe Happiness is something we create. It is a choice.
