((((( tomi & family )))))
My prayers are for the safety of your family. I remember those wildfires from my childhood. The horror of watching the flames get closer and closer. The smoke turns day into night. Praying the Santa Anna winds would ease or change direction. Packing the car with your belongings and waiting for the evacuation notice. And praying you wouldn't have to leave. My heart goes out to you and your family. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hopefully the winds will ease enough to spare the rest of the homes. Firefighters said this morning (news) that it's 0% contained.

Thanks again to everyone! The Lord has been merciful! The fire went sideways last night. My son told me that the sky was black with smoke all around them except over the ranch. The sky was BLUE over them! It was at the same time that I took the picture that I posted.
Last report was that the fire is headed toward them again but I have faith that it will spare them. But I would ask that you keep praying. ![]() I'm sure you've heard on the news that practically all of S. CA. is on fire. Let's pray that the winds die down... but thank God that there has only been one person to loose their life. Again, *I* am not in danger of burning, not in the path of the fire, but the wind is wicked and the air is full of smoke and ash. It's playing merry hell with my asthma. BUT... My baby and his babies ARE in the path of the fire... not to mention so many, many other people.

I'm not so sure ya'll want to join me on this roller coaster ride. There has been a fire about three miles away from my son's place almost all day. They get told to evacuate because it's coming and shortly after they get told "It's not coming."
My son is getting off that roller coaster ride and decided from the beginning that he's staying and fighting. The ranch is "important" enough that they'll have their own fire truck(s) to fight whatever they need to. My son is needed, anyway, to help manage all the animals. The ranch houses many, many movie animals, so... politics play a big part in this. I care much more about the tension experienced and the bad air my grandkids are breathing, but it's not my place to do anything about it. I've offered to keep them with me until all this passes but I'm not being taken up on it. What can I say except "HUMPH!!" LOL If I hear anything during the night or tomorrow, I'll let everyone know. Keep the faith. I'm certainly holding mine firm. ![]()

Tomi,
Your family & all of the people in the So Cal area of the fires are in my prayers. I just heard about all the fires....I've been of the internet since last week & all this happened so suddenly. The fires in Ca are hard for anyone to understand that haven't lived around them for sure. Even if they aren't in your back yard & threatening your house, the smoke is there causing all kinds of breathing problems. I pray that you asthma will be ok. I remember the Santa Clarita fire just 3 years ago (the one that was caused by the hawk flying into the power lines). The smoke covered the Antelope Valley where I lived & I (who never had asthma before) ended up with an asthma attack that landed me in the hospital for 10 days. People here in KY don't understand my fear of fire...when my neighbor was burning a pile of trash right next to the woods on my farm during the draught we are having here made me crazy. We had just had a little rain, so they lifted the "no burn".....I actually called the fire department to check on the fire because I was so nervous. The intensity of the fires in Ca can't be imagined unless you have lived around other places with similar fires. You & your family are in my prayers, Debbie

At last count I saw over 350 homes have burned and 150 businesses??? Such tragedy.
Some of the areas have burned a few times before though... but not under controlled burns. Are they doing controlled burning in CA anymore? I heard someone say they don't. I also heard that the two main reasons for the fires are development, and climate. ((((hugs)))) Hope it stays away.

These fires have been burning for how long now?
Where is the federal help for southern california? The national guard needs to be called to duty to help in this. The firemen and property owners there have got to be more than worn out. September, if you need anything that i can offer, please let me know. I really feel for ya'll over there. And i want to help. All of you will remain in my thoughts.

"controlled burns" would be difficult, Sky. California isn't flat. It filled with canyons and that terrain makes controlled burns difficult.
As more people move in, developers are moving out and fire equipment & personnel can't keep up. Developers build in canyons (view is selling point) which are like large funnels in fires. The vegetation on the hills is mainly chaparrel (large bushes sort of) with roots going everywhere. A tiny drop of water and it grows like the weeds in my yard. Drys out just as fast too. Perfect fuel for a fire. Climate - DRY not desert but working on it. Low, low humidity like 5%. Less than 10" of rain a year. Prone to Santa ana winds (winds blowing from AZ deserts out of east as high as 75-80 mph - hot and dry) Houses built in mother natures funnels surrounded by vegetation that grows like weeds and drys out just as fast. Add high, hot, dry winds that last about three days and one spark...............(as from a down powerline due to high winds) Now that you are throughly edumacated by a frog of little brain aren't you soooooo happy. ![]() I just hate that so many people are losing everything. Thankfully there has been little loss of life.

Chalm, as far as I know, the fires started last Saturday.
Just heard on the news that the National Guard has been pressed into service. Unfortunately, the powers that be never move fast enough to get them going. Those wheels turn ever so slowly. Sweety, I appreciate you wanting to help but at this point, there is very little that can be done. I, personally, don't need any help... unless, of course, you could send some fresh air. ![]() My son isn't even accepting what little help I can offer. Haven't heard from him today, but "no news is good news" when it comes to him. Not that it's acurate, but I just saw a map of his area. No really close fires to him, so I'm going to breath easy. Really, really appreciate all of the help I've gotten from some of you posters. You've saved me a lot of work... Froggy. ![]() Thanks, Everybody! ![]()

Ummm... over here! On the WEST coast!
![]() Yeah, a light rain would be good about now... as long as it's LIGHT. Otherwise we're gonna have landslides instead of fired! ![]() We go through this every year, Spirit. Kinda goes with the territory. Thank goodness I don't live near the hills anymore. It's "the young'un" that insists on living out in the country. I'm sure he does it just to keep me on my toes. LOL

One last note of thanks for everyone's prayers and concern!
![]() I'm thanking God, too, for answered prayer. The fire came pretty close to my son's house... in fact, it got a corner of the ranch where the cattle are kept but nothing significant. God, indeed set his angels to protect my son, his family and that ranch!! ![]() Thanks again to everyone! ![]() ![]() PS The heat was really getting to me today but now it's almost downright cold! LOL I've got all doors and windows open and three fans going hoping for a cooler tomorrow. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!! It feels SO GOOD!!!! ![]()
