Hey everyone, today i went for my first visit to a psychiatrist and he told me what i feared. I have OCD to add to my list of problems. He is starting me on Zoloft and i dont think it will be bad, from what he says. Is there anyone taking ZOLOFT? What has it done for you? Please tell me if it is worth taking? I have a history of ditching meds and i think ill stick with this one if i hear positive personal stories of people on it.

My daughter has had very severe OCD for many years and has been on zoloft for a chunk of those. It works well for her. Side effects were mild. No appetite in the beginning, maybe upset tummy. Sometimes with ocd they have to give a higher dose then they would for depression. Stick with the drug. It is worth it. My kid could tell you all about it. Good luck.

Mizzy whatever opinions people offer here please remember that everyone reacts very differently to meds. What may be a miracle cure for one person may have no effect on another, and what may have no noticable side effects for one person may present such annoying effects to another that they wish to discontinue treatment even though it is helping the primary problem.
I was on Zoloft twice. The first time I do feel it was effective (I was taking it for depression, not for OCD, but I do think it was lightening some of my OCD tendencies as well). I had some side effects but wasn't worrying about them because it was more important for me to deal with the depression. Unfortuneatly at the time I did not follow through with therapy or follow up treatment... I was already too deep into the depression to really care that much. I became lax in keeping up with my med schedule, and the relief from some of the side effects when I missed doses made me stop taking the Zoloft. A very unwise decision. The Zoloft at that time was also really helping my anxiety and helping me to sleep. I took it at night and it made me noticably sleepy which was good for me. A year or more later, being now in treatment with a pdoc and therapist for my depression, Zoloft was again added to my regimin along with other meds I had started. Specifically, Wellbutrin seemed to be effective for my depression and fatigue, but was increasing my anxiety level, so the doctor added Zoloft to try to help with the anxiety. This time rather than making me sleepy it gave me very bad insomnia. We quickly switched to Celexa instead of the Zoloft and that seemed to do the trick, quieting my anxiety and helping me sleep. This demonstrates not only how differently people might react to meds, but also how one person can have a different reaction at a different point in time in conjunction with different meds. Please don't have any fear of starting Zoloft. I know many people who have very great success with it. The most important thing to remember is to give it a chance to work, and if for some reason it does not, there are many other meds available and it is likely that something can be found that will be effective for you without any serious side effects. Good luck and I hope the opinions here from people gives you some comfort for your start of this med. I just want to be sure if there are any negative comments that should not in any way add to your fear, but rather be an example that it is important to report your progress and feelings and side effects to your pdoc so that he can be sure it is working properly for you or else work on trying a different med. ------------------------------------ --http://www.idexter.com
