Does anyone get made fun of because they like a variety of things, not just in music....but in other things, clothing, etc? I find alot of friends in highschool as well as adult friends online seem to think I'm weird because I dont have a "label" I'm just me. I'm pretty down about alot of things now, this being one of them....

For example for music I like...Pop/rock,rap, rock, pop, heavy metal, new age, etc...and ppl seem to think I'm weird cause I can go from listening to Eminem to Johnny Cash to Metallica to Colbie Calliat....

Am I weird to not have a select label?

Oh heck Moonkin....you are not weird at all.....there is a label for that and it's called "Well Rounded" in your taste of music! You have kept an open mind about different genres of music and enjoy lots of different things. That's AWESOME!

Inevitably, what this will do for you is make you compatible with many different likes from many different people in the years to come. Many teens don't have such open minds to different things...they are more worried about "fitting in" with a particular crowd. You are putting yourself out there and fitting in with many different things. That's always a GOOD thing!

Rock on! I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label......

moonkin, i have a very ecclectic mix of music (over 2000 singles from abba to zztop and everything else inbetween) it depends on my mood what i listen to, its good you have the choice to listen to what you want and enjoy it, it doesnt matter what order if any you listen to them in, if you like it then sod them, simple, we all DONT live in labeled boxes, you are definatly not alone.

How refreshing to hear what you said......good on you to be yourself, my kids had flack at school cos they weren't 'sheep', no offence muffy lol.

They listen to all sorts of stuff from Johnny cash to 80's punk and rock, debbie harry and new stuff also, they love Nick Drake and the beatles - hey where is the law saying you have to belong to a certain 'something' I hate labels, I applaud you for being who YOU want to be, don't ever let anyone change your individuality sweetheart.

My kids have earned respect in the end after all the crap they had to endure for being themselves, and they are doing really well

Here's to you being a great person with a great mind and a free spirit - sod the rest!!! I'm with Mellors.....

Love and great big cuddly hugs, jin xoxoxxoxoxxo

You do have a label - your an individual. It's ok not to conform to anyone elses preconceived notions of what you should or shouldn't do.. I think it's great that you know what you like and will listen to it, regardless of what everyone else thinks. I had a hard time fitting in in high school, but as soon as I graduated and got into university I found lots more people with eclectic interests. So be proud of your individuality.

Hi Moonkin,
If you want a label or a one-word description of yourself, here it is:

ecclectic

Try not to be so hard on yourself. From what I know of you, you are very articulate...and normal. Since "normal" is so difficult to define, let's call it "within normal limits." How's that?! I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label......
Best,
Okie

Moonkin,

I think it's important to be an individual....to define your own likes & dislikes. To define your own thoughts without having them being forced on you by someone else.

Sure, it's easier to let someone else do your thinking for you. Tell you what you should like or dislike, what you should look like or not look like, how to wear your hair, or what make of car you should drive, what food you should eat? I found that to be truely happy, I have to be the one that likes what is around me in MY life Why do I have to like what someone else tells me to like or do what someone else tells me to do. Then, my life is theirs not MINE. I found that no one has the exact same tastes as I do. If we have to like what everyone else likes, then why are there so many choices in the world? Being an individual is the most important thing in life, knowing ourselves is what gives us the strength to hold onto our own beliefs & make our own decisions. It gives us the strength to stand up against those who try to force us into things we don't want or believe in.

It's important to not have a label other than being "yourself". They can make fun of you for that, but you are the one who can honestly say why you like or dislike something or why you do or don't do something.....all they can say is "because everyone else in the (label) does".

I love my world made up of things I truely love around me....things that make me happy, calm, & relaxed, rather than trying to force myself into being something I'm not or having things around me that I don't really like.

It's important to know yourself & be yourself....you will be happy in the long run,
Debbie

Hey man, I was the exact same way in high school. What was cool was I was in a bunch of different activities and also an honor student so I found lots of different friends with different tastes. Finally I ended up hanging out with a group of people who had one thing in common - none of us fit in anywhere else! You are not alone!

PS You should see my itunes mixture... Its so much easier for me to answer "what music DON'T you like", than "what music DO you like"!

I can tell you one thing I listen to all different types of music depending on my mood. If that makes me wrong I don't want to be right. You have to explore you for who you are not what other people want to label you. Labeling a person is another person's way of putting themselves up higher on the pecking order. When I was in school I got made fun of a lot, but as I realized it really did not matter. The people that were making fun of me put their pants on one leg at a time just like I did. So don't worry about the labels, that is all they are just labels, they don't mean a thing.

Hey Moonie!!!

Long time no see, eh? What's the matter....cat got your tongue? As far as I'm concerned, music is in the eye of the beholder. You listen what makes YOU feel good, not what someone else tells will feel good. Music is very universal, and no one person conforms to everybody else's dislikes, and or likes. I love classic rock.......the oldies but goodies.
I grew up in the 60's, so that makes sense to me. There aren't alot of kids around who sit and listen to the duets of that era.........their music would make them barf!!! I loved the duets from that time. **** and Deedee, Paul and Paula
Jan and Dean............just to mention a few. These were the stars of our time. Who the hell are they? Log onto youtube.com and you can find just about anyone you like on your favorite video. It's the coolest site ever. I found a singer that I hadn't heard from in a long time.....a real sweet voice..............give it a listen Dustin. It's called " Angel on my Shoulder" by Shelby Flint. You may not like it, but it's a very sweet song. If you are looking for someone Moonie, then that's the song to hear. You might think it's nice. Who knows? Steve Lawrence's " Go Away Little Girl" is another one of my faves. Procal Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale". Oh do I get to dream land on that one!!! I can just see me now, out on that dance floor with one of my brothers best friends.............and ooooh, baby, baby.............I HAVE MY MOMENTS!!! ( few and far between, but............).
Give a listen, will you? Just some ideas. I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label...... I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label...... I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label...... I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label...... I get made fun of becuase I dont have a label......

Oh alright, moonie!!!
Just to give you an example of being the " outcast", so to speak, how would YOU feel if YOU were the SHORTEST girl
in the gym class and no one picked you for a team mate for
any sports???????????
Well, that happened to me alot. The girls use to sneak up on me outside while we were waiting for the teacher, and picked me up and threw my shoes over in the BOYS tennis courts while they were playing. They thought that was soooooooooo FUNNY!!! Some days they would TICKLE ME til I wet my pants, too. Even the teacher got into the act. I hit a HOME run PLAYING soft ball one day, and while I was running home, the teacher grabbed me and twirled me around and then said go on to home plate. Ha.
I did, of course. After they found out I was a power hitter in
the area of softball and baseball, they all wanted me on their team. It didn't matter then.........they just saw a WIN coming for them!!! There's been other things too. When you are the littliest person in the class, other kids that are tall think they need to HELP you with Volleyball, and Basketball. I can't tell you how many times I got STEPPED on by someone trying to reach the ball for me. I use to get mad and tell them to back off.....I want to play too.

Oh, life aint easy for a boy named SUE!!!!!

I'm sorry I didn't reply sometimes I just don't feel up to things, I feel dead and bland, I know I should get out of that somehow espcially when you all are doing me a favor by giving me advice and comments. I've listed to some of your music before. Its really nice, not something I would listen to daily but definitly not bad...I'm sorry if i've hurt your feelings....
