This is a weird topic, I know. I like to wear shoes with laces but I often wear them loose so I can easily skip them on and off. I loosely tie my shoes when I leave the house in the morning and they usually come untied. Since they usually aren’t long anyway, it doesn’t bother me unless I’m doing physical activity. If I am just walking around I don’t care and I don’t trip. I swear every single day a coworker (usually one of the same few people) tell me my shoe is untied. I cannot stand it any longer. I used to play along and act like it was no big deal and say oh thanks and just tie it. But my god, why can’t i just have my shoes untied? I know they mean well but I just don’t understand why I can’t walk around with loose shoelaces without hearing that every.single.day. This hasn’t happened nearly as much other places I have worked. I’m to the point where if I notice they are untied I try to tie them just so I don’t have to hear it. But I don’t always remember since it doesn’t bother me.

Put elast tic shoelaces in that don't tie. You can probably find them on Amazon.

Well I think its just a courtesy thing to let people know of that. It also probably would drive people a little nuts to see someone walk around with their shoes untied without care. It would bother me lol!

I like to just slide my shoes on and off. What I do is after I lace a new shoe (but before tying them) I take the right and left side of the top of the shoe and pull them apart as If I am trying to open up the shoe more to see something that fell in. Since the laces are untied the laces stretch out more in the loopholes and give the laces more slack. Then I take the shoe on and off and make sure it is loose enough for me to take on and off without effort. and then I make a double knot without pulling the strings tight, just leaving them as slack as they were. Then they come on and off the same as the test run I did before tying them and I never have to tie my shoe again lol. Elastic is also a solution.

BlueMerleGirl,

I think one clue as to why it keeps happening is you saying, ". I used to play along and act like it was no big deal and say oh thanks and just tie it." And by that reaction from you, they thought you wanted to know--and are continuing to tell you.

I think you have a couple of choices:
1. Tell them, thanks, but you prefer your shoes untied.
2. Let it go--you can't control what others say and do--only your reaction to it.

I have folks telling me all the time that I am wearing mismatched socks! lol--and I say, "Yeah, I like them unmatched and I have an identical pair at home!"

Yeah I suppose this makes sense. Like I said I do try to let it go, but it’s just gotten to the point where it is driving me nuts now. It’s not that I even necessarily prefer them Untied, I just don’t care if they are, and it seems like it would come off as rude to say that.

Yeah I’ve seen people do that, but I do prefer to be able to tie them tight when I want to, so it doesn’t really work for me.

I understand how it could get to you.... It's not rude to tell folks what you prefer--your tone is what counts here. Just say, "I know--tied, untied--it doesn't bother me, but thanks."

Just a suggestion....

Well as you know I get irritated easily and this fits right up there. It isn't really a polished look is it. But I like people's suggestions. There is a product called Hickies which are clickable elastic shoelace replacements. I loathe them but they sound like just your thing. Why not pull at the laces to loosen them then tie the slack? This would allow you to slip your shoes on and off and not make you look, well... um, er (sorry) lazy. In the same vein knot each lace at the top eyelet and snip off the remainder. Consider perhaps skateboard shoes which are designed just to have this untied look about them.

I agree with the others. Get some elastic laces or some other option where you can be comfortable. There’s not much you can do about people telling you that your shoes are untied. Most people think that this is doing you a favor, because one can trip over untied laces and have a nasty fall.
