I'm not sure where this belongs but making lists all the time, scratching off a few items... Couple days later create a new list, some items that weren't done put on it some not. sometimes I find multiple lists with similar items on them but they were made on different days and some I think I forgot I made....
Always heard lists were good to make, but I think I may be failing at the objective. Ie two years ago list has in it: ''go back to school'' and its on multiple lists... Its something that would benefit me, but yet I just haven't kicked myself hard enough to do I guess??? I do it for small things too, get camping gear. Several lists these past weeks with the same items on them.... Grr If home was work/job, all lists would be done. I don't get it... It makes me sad sometimes when I think about it that way. |

I will be the dork to reply to my 8 yr old thread..
Over time, i will find this is a common task that many have issues with and yet still wonder if I've been misdiagnosed many times, (not with the PTSD but bipolar) and I am actually more on a spectrum of ADHD ((that as a kid my parents were told something on this but told me it was made up- another story for another day)). Anyways-- Past Beauflow, Over time you will find many more lists, you will also forget goals and remember them later. You will spend a year remembering and forgetting why your breaking up with someone and still have moments afterwords not remembering why you broke up. You'll discover you do better with a whiteboard on the fridge and lists than paper in a note book. And yet you'll forget this ![]() Behavioral has some to do with this too... always learning, or hoping that's what is going on.

Lists can definitely be helpful and an advantage if you want to get something done. I didn't realize your original thread had been from 2011.
Thanks for sharing. ![]() |

I am the spreadsheet queen. I am also forgetful; so, listmaking helps. They also motivate me to get things done.
I make my daily list then assign the value of A,B, and C to each item and form an agenda according to priority. "A" must get done, "B" should get done, and "C" would be nice to get done. I then group B and C together and reprioritize putting off that which isn't necessary. I used to do this at work incidentally which saved my behind over and over as I was able to demonstrate to my boss the heavy workload I had. Anyway, if it wasn't for my daily list everything would get ignored or put off. |

Lol, your comment about making the lists and then forgetting and remaking them and maybe remembering about a goal a year later - that is me
![]() For my paper to-do lists, I *like* making a new one each time and crumpling up the old one whether the tasks are all complete or not. Writing the list is a sort of calming technique that stops me from worrying about the five hundred things I want to do. I write them down, empty my head, and just pick one to work on. |

I made myself use lests when I was writing term papers for college, ABC and abc., 123etc also came into use. I had been out o college and need only 4 courses to finish and got my Bachelors in Arts last year. I don't recall doing anything harder than finally getting that degree. I had to relearn how to write papers too.

Yes love making lists and make lists on paper and in my I-phone in the Notes app. Making lists helps reduce anxiety definitely and sometimes my list is ongoing for a few weeks and look back and feel good about finishing things on the list (don’t always finish everything, sometimes). In the past have learned about setting long term goals with a deadline or timeline. For example, “run a 5 K race” within the next 3 months and then research training plan online or in running magazines. Miss jogging and running. Now walk my dog and used to hike some and want to get a treadmill maybe some day.
