I feel like I may have had a few helpful, to me, insights recently... having had several years of severe su ideation, amongst other issues.......
However, in real life... since early childhood. There are quite extraordinary, and stifling, barriers to my authentic communication ![]() It is not surprising I am the “oral receptive type” ![]() Without a “large support system”... However I have been labelled by an Expert as “a bright woman” ( TWO “experts” irl in fact... So I am not a total “failure” ![]() ![]()

Could you define "oral receptive type" I haven't heard that term before. I Always love to learn something new.
Yea, authentic communication didn't happen in my family or my marriage either. They were all in their out of touch worlds & when I tried to communicate normally it was like I was the one speaking a foreign language. I woukd try to say what I said in a dozen different ways hoping some way would get through to them.

I didn't begin to learn how to communicate until I found a therapist who cared in my mid-thirties. I am better, but still not very good at it. Which is probably why noone wants to have anything to do with me.

You and you alone define whether you are a failure, Fuzzybear. Total or otherwise. While many can try--and while many will try, only you can define that for yourself. You're not a failure to me. But your own opinion is what counts.

Its a terrible story. Just be yourself and you can do everything! Nevermind what people think.

Be proud of your accomplishments.....not in a boastful way.....but they are also what makes you who you are. Don't discount them to your childhood experiences.....they are just as much YOU & actually more because you have achieved them "in spite" of your past.
I am proud of the accomplishments in my life. I had to FIGHT to achieve them & that made me a much stronger person.....the stronger person I am today no matter what my past was. I am ME & with that also has come with therapy learning who I REALLY am & with that knowledge came authentic communication because I am saying what I think & feel, not things to try not to offend or please others. Have found that to be like a magnet. Those who don't want to be authentic.....stay away & it seems to attract those into my life who are.....(even those who disagree in authentic ways)

No. No one person is a complete labeled 'failure'.
I always find the intellectual compliment a little backhanded...like 'you are so smart, why can't you think out of your emotional state'? Is that something you identify with? |

Fuzzy, I'm unclear on what you mean. Are you saying you need more real-life, face to face chat time with people?

Oh, hon...I really get that. My family now only consists of my husband, and carefully-chosen trusted friends. My 'family of origin' have all proven to be shallow, gullible, easily manipulated and short-sighted, self-absorbed people. They have now all proven to me beyond any shadow of a doubt that they are completely unenlightened, and have no desire to become so. So, they are essentially dead to me.
I could use more real-life friends, too...I think we all could. I am contemplating starting up a small chat group right in my town, people who feel like they've moved beyond the initial stages of their illness, and would like a real-life safe environment to sit and talk in. Something small and manageable. I'm working on a proposal to bring to my local health center so there might be some oversight for it. I dunno. The prospect excites and terrifies me at the same time. But there's certainly a need for something like this. Big bear (((huggggs)))....you are loved, Fuzzy. Always know that! ![]() |
