Chalmette,

I was heart broken this week to hear about the decision to tear down some of the existing low-cost housing, before building new. The homeless rates are awful. I just don't understand, why the Department of Housing is not getting involved. We made the NY Times

Chalm, I can't even imagine struggling through something like this. I have been fortunate enough to never have struggle through a major natural disaster.

I am sending positive thoughts your way...lotsa of them.

EJ711, HANO is involved in the tearing down of the projects. The outside media is only speaking one sided. The Housing projects are so torn down and destroyed it will cost more and take more time to rebuild. Thats why, demolishing what is there and making new is what their plan is. They want to build so that it is a mixed area of housing. To satisfy and help both the no-income and the low income to get on their feet.

I dont want to talk much of this cause it really gets my blood boiling. But the truths are not being told on this matter to the outside public.

HANO is causing most of the problems, one way is by the billboards they are placing throughout the entire New Orleans metro area. For the past month or so, people of all races and backgrounds have been in an uproar becuase of the racial comments and demands. Its not a pretty site. But the mayor of New Orleans has made clear in the past what he expects in the recovery of the city.

If you go to the NOLA.com forums, im sure you will find alot more information thats closer to the truth from the people living in this region. I'm pretty sure you will also be able to find members on the forums who have taken pictures of these billboards and posted them in the forums. I warn you about going to these forums though. There is alot of hate and frustration going around on these. So dont take to heart anything said, it is only the opinions of present and past residents.

Thank you all for your words and hugs.

I aint gonna lie, its horrible here. But, the people who did come back and are rebuilding. And those who already have rebuilt and moved back in, are doing it all on their own. And its taken a long time to do it. We have faced the facts that if it needs to be done, the only way it will get done is if we do it ourselves. And that mentality is what has carried us this far.

In one of my counseling sessions, i made a goal that i would take my video camera out by the 1st of the year and video something. I still cant get myself to do it. The last time i looked through that camera, what i saw, is what i still see. Everything still looks grey.

I would very much like to make a video for you guys of what is good down here. Just the simple fact of having a neighbor move back, Rocky's reopening, or getting stop signs for the corners again, those small things that mean so much to us.

I try every day when i walk outside or drive someplace to only look forward and not to the side. Cause if i do look to the side, i'm right back where i started from.

I have to remember the wise words of my mentor and author Norman Vincent Peale:

"Eleven words can make an amazing difference in your life, Here they are:

Every problem contains within itself the seeds of its own solution."
