I'm not gonna go into details but I just got home from seeing Cloverfield and I can't stop crying and shaking and I don't trigger very easily. I don't know why it had the effect on me that it did but all I could think about was getting home to post here to anyone who even triggers just the slightest and I'm not talking about monsters and things we know aren't real. I am in absolute shock that I am upset as I am and my boyfriend is shocked too.......I don't know if this is anxiety or what, but please don't see it and if you do just get fully prepared. All I could think about was members here and/or people who have been through something traumatic because I haven't even really been through anything traumatic and this movie totally traumatized me.
Those of you who know me know that I don't often talk about movies and tv in this kind of way and those of you don't know me just know that I love PC and all its members so if I say to please be cautious, just please be cautious.........

Ray!!!
I know nothing about this movie, and it must be new and only out in theatres right now. Your post made me go to the movie website and watch the trailer. It looks pretty frightening. I'm a bit of a film buff, so I have to ask, what was it about the film that makes you suggest we don't see it. I have to add here, I refused to see A CLOCKWORK ORANGE when it was out when it was released when I was just out of college. My druggie boyfriend at the time was disgusted with me, but I still refused. I just rented it today, after all these years, and after the first few minutes of it, I turned it off! So, yes, I guess there ARE films we can refuse to view. Love, Patty |

I was thinking of seeing Cloverfield, but I decided not to: however, a few of my friends went along without me anyways.
My friends are a tough lot of guys, and when I saw them after the movie half of them were shaken up! I'm really glad I didn't see it, and I just satisfied my curiosity by reading the spoilers instead. Thank you for the warning! |

Well.....A Clockwork Orange is the one movie I refuse to see as well after watching the first few minutes YEARS ago I still turn the tv off when it is mentioned. So....maybe we have similar tastes, though trying to compare these movies is impossible.
I don't know how to explain why this movie did to me what it did. My bf and I rushed to the computers, me to here to post a warning, and him to see if anyone else there was affected like I was. I practically ran from the theatre and could not stop crying. I don't know if it was the way it was filmed, hand held camera, like Blair Witch, and when I saw that, that was before I knew it was fake, and it didn't have nearly the affect on me that this movie did. I think its because its in New York, and buildings fall, and the military is there........thats all I can say without sending myself into tears again.

Oh Ledge I'm so glad you didn't go.
Oh and an FYI I live in AZ and was only ever in New York for 3 days in 1993 so if I'm so far removed from all that and it got me this bad, all I can think about is people who were more directly affected, or have been through something traumatic. Thats why I had to get here to post what I did.

Ray...That is so amazing to me that you say this about the movie, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE!!! I have truly never EVER mentioned this film to anyone, except on here to your post.
I do know that at the time of my youth, back in the 70's, I had been hurt by the selfish drug induce behavior by my acquaintances, and the film seemed to suggest support of that mentality. I was done with it, and didn't want any more of it. As for this film, CLOVERFIELD, I'm not sure. I've heard nothing of it so far, but I take your warning seriously. I did kind of appreciate BLAIR WITCH for its originality. Patty |

Thank you guys......I'm SO relieved to be home to PC. Getting here was all I could think about. I liked Blair Witch, and when I saw it that was before I knew it wasn't a true thing, and it didn't even get to me as bad as this.
I was so shocked that this hit me the way it did. I just posted in Anxiety too. I guess that is what this was.

![]() ![]() I'm afraid to say much for fear I may trigger you again, but... we watched New York in the grips of something similar not that long ago. (I only watched the trailer that is approved for all audiences. ?? ) It could have been that which triggered you? ![]()

thanks for the warning (((((Raynaa))))) we also walked out of the film of Clockwork Orange, weird coz we had read the book without being triggered. we can do without spending our tiny income on being triggered by a movie & we will make sure we don't watch it when it reaches TV. thanks again for the warning

I had not ever heard of the movie so I too looked it up. I wouldn't be able to watch it in any event, the handheld camera irritates me. Thanks so much for the warning.
I was bothered by the series Jericho. Not the show itself, but the premise. It made me feel quite hopeless.

I personally do not desire to see this movie at all - for it is not my type....... but my husband and our soon to be eighteen year old son wants to see.
I guess I would need to know a little more about this movie than what the trailers and commercials show, for lets face it eighteen year old kids and some men like these type of horror movies - Would some one mind telling me (in thread or PM) a slight insight to what makes the movie bad - besides the monsters, blood & gore? |

My boyfriend really liked it. Basically its a disaster film. It makes you think its the monster, which there is a monster, but its just.....its too real. The monster didn't bother me, it was the fact that the whole movie is shot from a handheld camera, so you're "with" the people as they're trying to survive this disaster. The fact that its based in NYC I think is what got to me. We've seen real tragedy there, so to see a movie where there's more tragedy there was tough. There's a military presence and usually I like military stuff but this was all just too real, in light of current and recent events. All I could think about were people who were there during the tragedy irl, or anyone else with any kind of ptsd. I think thats why it got to me so bad, I didn't expect it to feel so real. Movies are usually just movies to me. Your hubby and son might enjoy it. I can't say it was a bad movie, it just hit me in a way I didn't enjoy.

I'm very sorry to hear anyone has this type of experience. It is a good thing to read the theater reviews about every moving before viewing it. I had heard only briefly about this movie and had long since determined it wasn't one I would enjoy. Take care of yourselves, and ask the theater manager about the movies he's showing. And if you still have to walk out on one, ask for your money back. (It isn't your fault if you try to avoid bad movies and they don't rate them or review them accurately.)

I wasn't going to post in here because I posted in your anxiety thread but I had to say that I loved A Clockwork Orange. It's a personal favorite. But it's a good example of a film that needs to be approached with caution. Sounds like Cloverfield is another of those.
I'm looking forward to this one but I appreciate the warning. Cyran0

Dont have to worry about me seeing it. I dont like those kind of movies. I am a film buff but I am still choosy about what I watch. there is a lot of garbage out there, even if it isnt real.I dont want to take it in my mind it bothers me way too much. that is not entertainment. Thanks so much for your post, I may have accidently tuned in, if it wasnt for your quick action. You take care of yourself.
