I will be off from January 3rd (later in the day) until January 11th. I may be here to check PM's and read some, but if I'm here I doubt it will be in any dependable way.
My daughter is having her surgery on the 4th and she will be staying with me so that I can be here to care for her through her recovery and care for my soon-to-be five-month-old grandson. I do plan on being here for personal support the night of the fourth because I'm going to be VERY anxious that she's at the hospital and I'm not. I will have to bring the baby home and care for him after the surgery. These are my plans. They could change, and I could be back sooner, or I might need a few more days than I've stated. Please know that DocJohn will be available during this time, but January, Clyde, _sabby_, darkeyes, Rapunzel, bipolarbear, Raynaadi, mentalpollution will all be available to you as well. Please don't hesitate reporting a post of concern which will automatically send a PM to all, or personally PM any of the above. You can PM me and I'll be checking in as I can. If I can't personally review something, I'll forward it on to someone who can. I care so much about you all, and hope that you know you'll be HIGH in my thoughts during this time. If there's anything I can help with before the 3rd...whether it's just a simple question or a deeper concern...PM me. Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts during this time. As always, my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. You've all been through a rough time this past year, and I just know that 2008 will be a new beginning for all of you. My gut tells me your daughter will do just fine through the surgery and in recovery. She is so lucky to have you to care for her and your grandson.....not to mention everyone else that benefits from your love and care  I'm always here for you....any time you need me. KD, you will be missed!
I can imagine how hard that must be to not be able to be at the hospital with her. She needs very much for you to be with the baby and that will give her such wonderful peace of mind to know he's being cared for by you! You all will be in my thoughts and I'll look forward to hearing that all went well. |

KD...what type of surgery is your daughter having, if I may ask?

Danialla,
She's having her thyroid removed. We didn't find out until she was pregnant that she has grave's disease, goiter and grave's opthalmopathy. She's been very sick since with liver and heart involvement. They can't get it controlled. We have a small window of opportunity in which to get the thyroid out. They can't remove it if she's not stable (she could go into a bad thyroid storm) and she can't take the auto-immune drugs due to liver involvement so they're using a different kind of med that helps well, but doesn't work for long. Since it's a complete thyroidectomy, they're really concerned about the four parathyroid glands...that they aren't removed as well. They'll no doubt be stunned and she'll have to take massive calcium for a bit, but we'll hope they remain intact. From this point she'll forever be hypothyroid, but euthyroid as far as the grave's goes...which is much better for her and her body. Thanks for caring! I'm going to print this out and take it with me to the hospital and let daughter read it and I will read it to know how many thoughts and prayers are going up and out for her! I love you all. KD

It's good of you to let the community know. You and your family will be in my thoughts. And if there is anything I can do, feel free to PM or email me. You know, someday we'll have to meet for coffee or something. We can compare baby pics. Grandson and nephew.
