I have an eating disorder, it's pretty obvious it's bulimia, although it's not officially diagnosed. I see my PCP next week for a follow up after a hospitalization (psychotic episode due to schizoaffective). I've spoken to my therapist about this and she agrees that I have an eating disorder, and we're working on it (getting nowhere, but she's going for ed specific training soon). I think my regular nurse practitioner should know I'm binging and purging, ya know, for medical reasons (especially since I have a history of throwing up small amounts of blood).
I don't know what exactly to tell her though, or how to get myself to admit it to anyone other than my therapist. Advice? __________________ [Insert thought-provoking and comedic quote here] |

I am not comfortable about revealing things to my doctor so I can definitely identify with what you wrote. If I was good at that kind of thing I could probably offer you some helpful advice.
To be honest, if I was in your shoes I would have trouble revealing what you are hesitant to reveal to your NP but I hope you somehow find some inner source of gumption to do that since what you have written about your history of throwing up small amounts of blood is concerning and that kind of thing can't be good for your health. Some people have little tricks for getting up the courage to do things. I hope they will see your post and respond to it helpfully. I will be more than interested in reading their responses too since I tend to be a meek person especially regarding medical stuff. |

From personal experience (though it was weight loss/anorexia) my MD basically had no response when I told him. I ended up in the medical hospital because of it but like he said even then, "I am ONLY treating your "PHYSICAL" condition not the underlying problem. Get the special help you need to deal with that".
