Last night at 6:00PM the furnace konked out. Heck, why not it's only -13 tonight. Luckily I have a gas fireplace downstairs. DW is not happy because I called repair and they came out but, alas, they don't have the part on hand.

Every time I call for a repair it's at night and they don't have parts. Anyway, I didn't get all freaked out like I usually do except for a moment when the cat got up in the rafters under the house. She came out on her own about an hour later, stupid cat!!!!

So, here I sit, waiting for repair to get her this morning.
They said between 8-12, why so long a window??? Wish I could do business that way, make people wait for me.
Well, I have the oven on and 2 electric heaters going.
Ovenight the fireplace went off, must have an internal timer.
I turned it back on this morning, the temp was 66 inside and -10 ouside. Well, it could have been worse, I could be out on the street or, bedridden or some other catastophic event.

So goes my life, how is yours this fine day?

Just got up not too long ago so I'm not sure how my day is going yet. More aggravation

Why don't you and DW crawl back in bed till the repairman gets there? You can snuggle up and keep each other warm... maybe tell each other some stories? More aggravation More aggravation You could also lay in front of the fireplace and keep warm that way. Get a good book to read, make more coffee or some hot chocolate to sip on and keep warm with. The possibilities are endless! More aggravation

Good luck with that furnace.

I hate when that happens! It's so annoying, especially when it's soooooo cold. Hope everything works out. Stay warm.

Well, I got a call back from the repair guys. They found the only ignitor for my model furnace in the state, (lucky me), as usual it is some junky model that is no longer being built.

Problem I have is the house I own next door has the same furnace, luckily nothing has went on that one.

It is 72 degrees in here with only the fireplace on downstairs, set at 70. I'm sitting here waiting for the repairman, bill will be around $400.00. Looks like I better budget for a furnace in a couple years.

Hey, it could have been worse...like no fireplace and no money to fix the darn thing.

Oh, that does sound aggravating. At least the repair people keep in touch. I hate when they just don't show and you have to call them back, etc. Big places with a window I call them in the morning and they can often tell you where you're "listed" so you can know if you'll be second or last and get a little better idea when they'll be there.

We had an old oil burner in our last house and we had the guys, when they did their yearly inspection, test it to see how efficient it was and whether we could make back the money by replacing it but it was still extremely efficient and it would have taken 20 years to make back what it would have saved in fuel bills, etc. Maybe you should ask the guys to go ahead and find that part out of state for when the next door one breaks, you know it will now that you know parts are hard to find More aggravation

Beats $400 but not by much.

Glad it's fixed and that you were only without heat for one night. All my friends who own houses seem to be constantly having repairs and stuff. Makes me glad that I rent.
