It woke us up too here in Chicago, but we didn't know what it was. I'm used to my husband rattling the walls sometimes with his snoring, so I figured that's what woke me up. He's used to me tossing and turning, so he figured I woke him up. earthquake

I am surprised I didn't feel anything here in KY....I'm right in line between Illinois & Georgia. & I am very very sensitive to eathquakes......since being from California.

Hope all is safe,
Debbie

I'm in Western Ky and I felt it here. It rattled my entertainment center in my bedroom and my bed. I thought it was the cat jumping from the top of the center onto the bed like he always does, but my cats were all hiding. I felt it enough here for it to wake me and my husband up out of a dead sleep.

Wow, had no idea. My brother, nephew and sis in law are in Washington, near Peoria. They didnt say a word about it. I bet they all slept right through it.

OOO. There are actually (at least) 2 main faultlines... one through KY and TN and across that area, and another that cuts through the midwest, and through St Louie to KC KS.... the civil defense teams (ahem homeland security?) have been prepared (they hope) for years.

Good wishes.

Ugh. Media says it was felt as far south as Alabama. For 5 seconds! Talk about a time/space shift...that 5 seconds felt really long to many people I'll bet. earthquake

That long of a quake would crack roads and weaken bridges...oh our failing bridges in this country! I'm sure we'll hear more as this progresses. (Glad I live in FL again, where I "belong." earthquake)

Some people here in Carbondale didn't even feel it. It seems like the places it hit were pretty scattered. Some people here felt the aftershock but I didn't. And my sister in south dayton didn't feel it but a few of her friends did.

They showed on the news this afternoon that they are out inspecting the bridges in the area for any damage from the quake.

I hope all is well for everyone affected. I have been through some big earthquakes here in Southern California. They can be very scary, even if you are "used to them".
