He is right here in this part of his statement,,but as is often the case with profound change,,many seniors feel overwhelmed with the pace.

History is flecked with such resistance. My great grandfather refused to buy a tractor,,stating the limitations and problems associated with such a pile of metal. His horses were always ready for anything....He eventually succumbed and his horses got the rest they deserved...

The internet is now part of life and will only garner more and more of it as we depend more and more on it...but the result is not what the stubborn might believe...with it we can live more fully with the additional leisure time it will allow to explore...

Like the Borg wisely but arrogantly stated,,,"It is futile to resist".

IMHO.

Well, that's an interesting quote to put on a website like this.

Yes I am lonely, but I'm not dead!

I think his perceptions of the internet may be a bit skewed.

I was a very lonely person years ago when I first got on the internet. I have had the wonderful pleasure of getting to know many great people on the net.....both virtually and IRL have gone to meet them. I've traveled overseas and met some internet friends and had a ball....have become like sisters as a matter of fact.

So while many folks who are lonely are on the internet....many bonds have been made over time that would never have been made without this wonderful technology.

I like to keep my mind open to the possibilities! do you agree with this quote?

do you agree with this quote?

i have to say i disagree with this quote....about 50% of my IRL friends were initially met online...it's also a great way to keep in touch with friends who move away for jobs etc...and a great way of getting back in touch with ppl you lost touch with thru circumstances.

If it weren't for the internet, or this very website, I would have never quit drinking.

The stories and experiences moved me - they sparked something in me.

I think perhaps, anything in moderation is fine, as long as it's not an addiction. The internet opens endless doors.

well I wouldnt say Charlton Heston is stupid.....never met the man

but it shows how another generation is being replaced with a newer one.....not sure if the new one is any better, but there is a large number of people who are spending way too much time in cyberworld and not living and breathing the clean air

I think the quote is out of context and I don't have enough information.

I disagree with the quote. I have many more friends since I got the internet. I never feel alone now that I have it .

I really love the internet, and another self help board really was instrumental in helping me stop cutting and the social skills I learned there, have made me a better person IRL too. I also love on-line shopping (a little too much perhaps).

I actually think that the internet is a great resource for lonely people who are maybe housebound for whatever reason, to help form connections and on-line communities.
