Just curious... throws my hands up in the air like my daddy did and sorta gives up and says go do what you want...... which of course isn't a good attitude...

Yes...like your quote from the Great Helen Keller,,,they feel with their hearts and understand the failure of expectations...though unlike us they are not plagued by a vast and obsessive memory..

IMHO.

even at 7 years of age , Tara who is very well trained, has her moments of making mistakes, yes she knows when she's done wrong, but looking in those big brown eyes melts my heart, she will hang her head in shame then come for a hug

Get the book "Merle's Door" by Ted Kerasote.

It is without exception the best book on Dogs in general I have read. A wonderfull story mixed well with the latest research on training, potentials and our relationship with canids.

Good Luck radio...I never met a bad dog..just some bad owners..

You know I read though that animals "live in the moment." So if they do something naughty and you are not there to give them that look, but come home later and find out, they don't understand. What they did awhile ago doesn't matter.

Mine are never naughty.....angels all the time do dogs know when they are being naughty???

Radio, they definitly know when they've done wrong! Mine will give me a guilty look when I haven't been in the room. Sure enough, when I look around I can usually find what she's done that she knows she wasn't supposed to. do dogs know when they are being naughty??? LOL

If this helps any, my moms dog is about a year old now but not that long ago when he got overly excited he would pee everywhere not on purpose of course and when you got mad at him for peeing it would make him pee even more and run away throughout the house which only made a bigger mess lol. even after he was fixed he still had this problem until just a few months ago he has started to settle down a bit. Im sure that if you just stick it out with your dog, he/she will eventually become a really awesome dog. btw, if your not home, and your dog has an accident on the floor, you dont have to walk through the house and accidently step in it or something to know that your dog was bad, all you have to do is watch their behavior. Once they learn, they know they have done wrong and will act upset about their mistake. so id say they can tell when they are naughty.

I fully agree with Hyper 1 do dogs know when they are being naughty??? I had many dogs in my life and noticed that they begin to be calm and be ''good dogs'' once they reach one to two years old . Good luck with your little monster !

I am with puppy all day. He follows me around alllllllllllll day. Can't even brush my teeth without him grabbing my pant leg and trying to tear them up.. When he does something wrong and I say noooooooooo in that "don't do that" tone, and should I shake my finger at him saying nooooooo, he tries to bite my finger. So one of the biggest problems is he still bites. He is 7 or so months old.

Only time he is quiet is when I am on the computer... He lays under my desk at my feet with his collection of "goodies" he accumulated throughout the day. Like shoes, socks, sticks, and rocks...

I also give him that "look" and he just looks at me like what did I do. Sometimes he just stares at me. I am thinking when he does that he is thinking what can I do get her crazed out again... He is a handful..
