I am home from work today and I am in bed right now and would love to go back to sleep. Since I am going to the hospital on Monday, I figured I would just screw work today. I have the windows in my bedroom open because it is so beautiful out, but damn, it is loud. Philadelphia is made up of a lot of tiny streets. I live on one of these streets in which there is just enough room for cars to part on one side, and then a car to drive down the block. No room for error, lol. So because of the smallness and the closeness, you can hear everything.. This part of Philly is also home to the loudest people in the entire world. I know I'm from NY, but I'm sorry... no one spoke as loud as they do here. Here, yelling is the normal way of talking. Anyway, I'm just ranting because I'm sleepy. I love the noise of the city and wouldn't give it up for anything. Sometimes, though, a little quiet wouldn't be bad (and as I finish this post, everything just seemed to quiet down for a bit). I think I'll close my eyes now.

I have that problem too, and I'm a light sleeper. For me, it helps to run a fan or air purifier to block out the noise. It's still noise, but at least it's consistent and blocks out those jarring sounds. I love city life, but it is so loud. I can close my eyes and pretend I'm on a road trip or airplane. I love city life, but it is so loud.

Pinksoil;

Do you live in Kensington? I lived there 35 years ago.
It was a dumpy slum then. I was there looking over the old neighborhood about 5 years ago and it was even worse.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I left at age 17 and never had a desire to move back.

My Mother just moved to Clayton, NJ from Philly.
My sister and a brother still live in Kensington, i don't know how they do it.

You have my sympathy.

It's loud out here in the woods too! I hear night birds like owls answering each other,or that whipporwill that seems to be right outside my window (they're LOUD) about a gozillion crickets, and don't get me started on the frogs...they're out of control! they seem to be trying to see who can be the loudest! and then, as if thats not enough, theres the wind...up here on this ridge it's pretty windy! and if you DO ever get to sleep then theres that rooster who thinks that HE'S responsible for the sunrise and just has to crow about it...It's just noise,noise,noise...but it's my world, and my choices are the same no matter where i am, (love it or hate it) and while it may be considerably easier to love the noises of the country, I've had to deal with living in a semi truck before amd that was'nt! so, just keep on lovin where you're at, (I've been in philly so I know what you mean)

Kensington is scary. I do not live in Kensington. I live in South Philly and I love my neighborhood. I absolutely love this city and there is so much that I appreciate about it. It is unfortunate how certain parts of the city are in such bad shape. Very scary for the people who have to live in them.

every street there is one-way and it's the wrong way! you can SEE where you want to go, off in the distance, but no way can you actually drive yourself over there....speaking as an occasional tourist. It's even more fun in a rental car when you can't figure out how to turn on the wiper and/or headlights (now I'm just remembering my last trip there).

Best to just pull over, put on sneaks and walk. At least you can walk in both directions!!

That's one of the many things I hated about living in a city...all the noise! Yeah I think the best thing to do is get some kind of white noise constantly going like a fan or something. I had to have that when I was in the city.

I love city life, but it is so loud.
