Hey, Brian, another Hoosier (though I'm from Calif. originally--been here 18 years so I guess I qualify). I'll look out for anything from sweetlover10. Thanks for the detective work!--Suzy

if you gave him/her your e-mail you'll probably end up with either a virus or they will unload a truckload of spam onto you

It's ok, I don't hand out my email to anyone but was worried that this member may be given a bad name for no reason. What if they are genuine and were just looking for friendship?

OMG WTF I gave my e-mail.
I just realized now, I'm out of myself atm and wasn't thinking straight. I'm screwed ;[

And it's sweetlover10. I didn't realize that person just joined now. I have to be more careful from now on. Thanks for the heads up. GEEZ.

I got the pm too and thought it was strange. I don't give my e-mail out to just anyone. I looked at the person's profile and saw that they just joined today and hadn't filled in any personal info on the profile and it just screamed spammer to me.

I'm with Pegasus! What if this person is sincere and is just looking to make a connection!?! This is one hell of a welcome, don't you think??

If you ever get anything questionable in your PM box, take it straight to ADMIN! It's their job to take care of things like this.

Hi Folks,

Please do not respond to this individual. I too received an pm from them. I am taking care of the situation now.

Edited to say that this individual was looking to hook-up....at least according to their pm.

September, if someone is sincere and wants to make a connection; doesn't it sound strange to you they PM you only asking for your e-mail address which is not part of where they've just joined, is not posted? Why not make the connection in PM or give their own email address and ask you to email them? Especially a new person giving no information whatsoever about themselves. I don't see how anyone can even "think" such a person might be "sincere". No hallmarks there of sincere:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Sincerity is the virtue of speaking truly about one's feelings, thoughts, desires. Sincere expression carries risks to the speaker, since the ordinary screens used in everyday life are opened to the outside world.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post"> From: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sincere

I'm sorry but the PM I received did sound sincere! It didn't just ask for an email address, the PM said they were looking for friendship, and wanted to talk via email and wanted to send a photo of themselves to me!

I hope YOU can see why I thought the person may be sincere!

I sent a PM back to the member telling them that I would not give out email details but would be happy to receive PM's from them.

Oh wow!! I got that message too! I didn't respond because when I went to look at their profile they had nothing filled out and had no other posts. The message actually scared me. If they are a real person they would make posts. I actually got it twice. And they where not asking for friendship it sounded like they wanted a hook up or something. I may reply back via pm to see if they respond..I don't trust people who ask for my picture. I think it's weird I got the message twice.

Warning was definitely the correct reaction!

I got that mail too. But it was not the 1st time I received a mail exactly with this content! The last time i got it was when I had freshly signed in on a friendship/partnership community made by greenpeace!

Mails like this are not reliable and NOT to be trusted at all! They intend to get access to real data from naive users especially in social networks, and these informations WILL be abused! Sad, but true.

Do not respond! Do not give away any important e-mail-addresses! And if you did so: Forget this e-mail-account and build up another one.

We don't need to be loved by spammers and trolls Warning? Instead this is a good opportunity to say loud and clearly No Thanks!

Best wishes to everybody,
bluna

This individual was most definitely a troll....looking for personal emails and information for whatever purpose......

I know it's easy to get caught up in the message....looking for friendship etc etc. We all want to think the best of people. I think it's best to err on the side of caution, especially when dealing online and not knowing who is who out there.

If anyone receives a pm from someone wanting to be friendly, then they will keep it in pm and not ask for your email address. Check out their profile...have they posted on the forums, have they added any personal information of their own? How long have they been a member and what kind of posts did they make if indeed they posted? Have they been back to respond to any posts on their threads? If you are still unsure, pm a mod/admin and we'll be happy to help you.

We certainly want everyone to have a postive and safe environment here and do everything in our power to create that for you. Any time there is an issue with something, please let us know Warning?
