We live in a small town of about 3300 people in East Central Kansas. Most of the time the Kansas City weatherman barely mentions us. Not tonight though! He said our town was going to be hit by severe weather. I know it is probably 20 hours away, but after seeing the pictures of Seneca, MO, just 70 or so miles away, I'm scared.

We don't have a cellar, and we have six dogs who will also need to be protected, nevermind the cats, horses and livestock.

I just told my husband for the 30 millioneth time that I didn't want to live here anymore. I also mentioned that he is doing a lousy job of taking care of me. He is 68, but he has refused to look for a job for a year now. I told him if he would get a job, we could afford to have a cellar dug.

Please pray for our safety. I feel trapped and scared.

Wow EJ,

I'll even send you my basement. I have already had to use it this year....in February when the 15 tornadoes came through our area. I have 3 of my doggies cages in the basement. The other one is in the kitchen close to the basement door & the other 3 doggies are with me all the time & are on my heals no matter where I go, so they are in the basement when I am.

I sure hope everything went ok last night. I know we had a horrible storm go through yesterday morning but no storm warning at that time......wind blew down many trees however.

I know for me, the secure feeling of having that basement is worth it. I love my basement as it opens out into the back yard, making it less of a completely closed in basement that my Grandparents had in Topeka Kansas when they lived there.

I understand your frustration with a husband that makes you feel trapped. I know that getting the change you need is like beating your head against a brick wall. You are the only one that hurts from it.

I know you are probably about in finals by now.....will write when I get a chance...been very busy here.

Debbie

Thanks for all the loving and caring posts.

The severe weather is not supposed to be until later today.

I'm going to call a few places in town in a minute, like the Fire Dept., and see if they have a basement, we could come to with our beloved dogs. If not I'm thinking about putting all the dogs in our quad-cab pick-up truck and driving up to the next big town above us. Husband could go into Walmart, and watch the weather on the TV's.

Last night I was so panicked when the weatherman said our town's name as the bulls eye for the storm tonight, I couldn't even think.

We have large closets on the first floor that we can all (dogs & husband and me), but if we get an F4 like Seneca, MO (70 miles away) that won't be any good. The F4 tornados tore houses off their foundations.

Thanks everyone for listening and caring.

We live outside the city limits in a scarcely populated area. By calling a few contacts I have found a neighbor I didn't know existed, who has a cellar. The storm is not supposed to hit until after 5:00 p.m. I called the TV channel, whose weatherman named our town as the bulls eye for the storm on the 10:00 p.m. weather, and the director says he thinks it will be south and east of us. On the Weather Channel I think we are under the "red" area.

Please keep the prayers coming.

(((((EJ711))))

I am sending lots and lots of warm thoughts, prayers, and saftey you way.
I know how scary the weather is..my town was hit by a F3 tornado three weeks ago and just saturday another severe storm and wind damage was done..luckly the tornado never touched..my dad watched it pass over our house and my great grandfathers. Do you have a friend's house you can go to? Or does the local school offer shelter during severe weather..saturday the school opened it's doors to those without protection from the storm.
Take care EJ711 and keep us posted..
Love

Thank you again for your prayers and notes of concern and caring.

Special thanks to Debbie for a virtual cellar! Severe Weather Forecasted for our Town Tomorrow Night!!

The storms have passed us, and are now to our south and east. Phew!!

I ran away with four dogs in our quad-cab pick-up truck when they declared a tornado watch for our county. Husband didn't want to come. I went up to the next county (about 30 miles away), and had a nice Oriental chicken salad for dinner. I could see the news from my table, and while I was there they cancelled the tornado watch for our county. I drove home after dinner with a hamburger for my husband.

The dogs had a great time. I left the truck running with the A/C on, and locked the doors.
