When I mention my family, I refer to my mom, step dad and brother. I call my step dad my dad. My biological father and I have only spoken a few times in the past 10 years.

Growing up I lived with my biological father or grandparents or others. My mom left me when I was 3—I have no memories of her as a child. I bounced around a lot and, at times, did not have a home. My life was full of pain, fear and a complete lack of love. I suffered severe abuse and neglect.

I met my parents when I was a teen. My parents took me in and did their best to provide me with a good home and love. It was not until I was in my mid 20s that I really started forming a relationship with my parents.

Now, my mom, dad, brother and I are all best friends. We love one another and share our lives with one another. We always hug and tell each other how much we care about them and love them.

I feel so very fortunate to have my little family because I know what it is like to have none. I felt the need to share this with you all. At the moment, I am living in a separate state from my family and I really miss them. My heart hurts…I long to be with them.

I'm so glad you have your family and the love you so deserve. I do understand missing them too. About the only thing I can say is this....while even though you are not all physically in the same place, our are all together within your hearts and minds.

My family--I miss them.

I know that feeling so well. It can really hurt alot. I try to keep in touch by phone or email. And those rare times we get to see each other, i cherish.

I feel your pain and send you hugs wishing i was there to give you a real hug.

Hi DPM,
I'm sorry you has such a rough start in life. I certainly can relate. I'm really glad that you ended up with a great family -- especially one that you miss! Do as much telephoning and emailing as you can to keep in touch.

When will you be able to see them next?
Love,
Okie

me too.

the thing i find that eases the distance for me is mailing cards, postcards, and sending flowers, candy, and special things from my area. Also, i made my own notecards this year - just to send 'i miss you' on.

there is the phone, that's good too, but sending a picture, a little 'just because' gift or note, makes me feel like i am there with them. i imagine their faces and eagerly await their calls that they 'got it' ...

peace and comfort,
nightbird

I envy you DepressMe...you have much...

Today...get yourself a calendar..plan a visist to these wonderfull people of your life...mark the day you leave on your calendar...plan things you will bring,,,buy gifts or make them,,,,each day that goes by you will be closer to filling your heart with their touch...

This excercise will bring you closer to them and sooner than you think you will all be hugging...

Remember,,this is a program of action... My family--I miss them.

I will get to see my family in less than 2 weeks. My mom will be at my house for a week and my brother and dad will be there for the weekend. I really am looking forward to it.

Thanks everybody for the wonderful support...I appreciate each and every one of you!

This frog of little brain hurts along with you. It is so difficult to keep in touch with family. And because you found your family later in life it has to be more difficult.

My family is spread out all over. Both of my sons are in the military so whenever I ask where they are they come back with the smart remark "if I tell you then I would have to kill you", which pin points it on the world map exactly.

We started this practice when they first invented chat room. Lets see which decade was that. Everyone knows the day and time and we meet every week. Not everyone can make it every week but everyone who can joins in.

As a frog of little brain I'm sure there are much better ways of keeping in touch these days, but it works for us. And it helps to make the family closer together.

My family--I miss them. My family--I miss them. My family--I miss them.

Depressme,

I'm really glad that you have a family now that you are close to & even more so that you're getting to see them soon. I don't have much family and the one brother I'm sort of close to lives a 4 hr flight away.

I hope you have a wonderful time when you see them.
