OMG, Tim Russert (does Meet the Press, NBC news correspondent, only broadcaster I've liked since Peter Jennings died) died of a heart attack this afternoon.
![]() I'll post something in Grief, but man -- what a time for somebody with that much knowledge to pass away. ![]() Worse, he was only 58. ![]() |

What a loss. I really respected and liked him. Looked forward to his broadcasts. How sad and shocking.
gg Edited to add... I'll miss that smile and the twinkle in his eyes.

It must be terribly difficult for his colleagues and friends to report this as part of their on air duties. I know I couldn't do it. I'm much too much of a crier.
sigh May he rest in peace. gg

Oh, I'm sad to hear this. I liked him very much. He was a Cleveland area news reporter way back in the early days of his career and I loved that he 'made it big'. A great guy. I enjoyed him.

You know, that's what made me admire Peter Jennings. I was in college -- in journalism school, in fact, and walking through the newsroom -- when the news broke of the Challenger shuttle disaster. The second I got out of class, I ran home and turned on the TV. Peter Jennings rolled his sleeves up and did something like 13 hours nonstop on air, and he didn't lose it once, although you could see his eyes welling up many times.
Times like this I'm glad I just write. |

I have been watching the coverage and reading the news reports online and just crying.
Seems silly, I know, not like I knew the guy. I think I'm just sad for my profession, that one of the last of the good guys is gone so soon. ![]() |

I used to listen to Imus in the Morning on the radio years ago and that's when I learned of Tim Russert....I fell in love with him on that show. Extremely knowledgeable, very personable and had a great sense of humor to boot. He will be sorely missed.
May he rest in peace.... ![]() sabby |

Just watched Meet the Press Dedication Show to Tim Russert. Just in awww of this man. I remember when I was in high school. It was part of our Current Events class to watch the evening news every night and Meet the Press on Sundays. I still dont have a good understanding of politics, but I do understand that I loved watching Tim on that show. His enthusiasm was infectious. He was quite the man.. and what a good man he was. I hope that Luke as Tims legacy, can follow his steps in character and his love of life.

I will always remember Tim Russert best on the election night in 2000 with his white board. Somewhere around 3 or 4 AM, Russert had worked out a scenario whereby since the Senate was 50-50 at the time, Al Gore would cast the deciding vote for himself for President. Since I had been up all night with him, of course it made perfect sense to me! I refused to go to bed until Tim Russert told me who the president elect was!
My husband had dinner with him at a fundraiser a few years ago as well. He said that Russert was warm man that was very open and conversational...and also very bright. He will be missed. |

Sad day, indeed. I thought Tim Russert was truly what a journalist was supposed to be. While we all have have our own biases about the world, he never let it interfere with his job. He was truly a professional. He will be sadly missed....
