I just received an email from a friend, but haven't gone to the store to check and see about it yet.
It's calling for NOT buying the newest canned Pepsi... seems they have one that is for the 4th? American Flag and their own version of Pledge of Allegiance... no "UNDER GOD" .... didn't want to offend the muslums or something? ![]() At least we can all look for that one and see if it turns out to be correct. Glad the thread is here for this one!

It's probably a myth... just in time for July 4th! But good for showing there are enough people upset over the removal of Under God anywhere!

What part of Doc John's request that people not post in encouragement of boycotts are you struggling with?
It always surprises me just how upset religious folk get when people maintain that 'under god' isn't appropriate for contexts in which freedom from religion is (or should be) considered just as much of a right as the right to be religious. It is almost like... These people really do fear that god could be removed if they didn't protest in some way... |

The constitution doesn't say "freedom FROM religion"; it says freedom OF religion.
![]() This country was founded by people who had been persecuted for believing what they did. In their wisdom, our forefathers put it down to posterity that they and their decendants could be free to choose what they wanted to believe in. When someone has been given a freedom, we don't want to loose it. I'm sure you wouldn't want to, either. ![]()

Freedom of religion, I see. And so then it all hinges on whether atheism or agnosticism count as religious beliefs that should be given same consideration under the constitution. Hence some religious folk being determined that these views should be characterized as an 'absense' or 'lack' of belief rather than being positive beliefs in their own right.
'Under God'... Could that be offensive to some people who are polytheists (believe that there are many different Gods)? I know that a number of people (though not all) who are atheists / agnostics aren't terribly impressed with the 'under god' speel on the US dollar.. |
