Things are really bad for me and my husband right now. I've been out of work for over a year now and without insurance I can't afford my meds. Which means my depression has slammed me again. But any who.

We are having a bad week money wise. My husband's family has kept us in what food they could themselves afford to buy. Anyways I decided to apply for food stamps and had a friend drive me up there today to apply. ( I no longer have a car and live in a rural area. ) I get up there go through everything and find out hey I can get food stamps. YEAH $16 A MONTH !!! What am I suppose to to with $16, Buy a gallon of milk? I just really don't understand. So now I have $16 and waiting for disability. And they wonder why my mental state has declined.

Monty Girl,

I'm really sorry that sounds horrible. I don't know what they expect you to do with $16. I mean I guess it's better than nothing, but it seems to me like gov't programs should actually give reasonable levels of support.

Are their any food banks you could go to nearby you?

Good luck and try to hang in there.

I just accessed Angel Food Ministries here this month.

What is the organization advertised on TV with Montel Williams? Something like PPA. They are supposed to help people get prescription medication when they can't afford it.

I looked into Angel Food Ministries awhile back and just never used it because at the time just really didn't need it. I looked back into them and a host site is in walking distance to my house. Waste of time !! The only thing is that I have to pick up my box in another town. But pick up is on satursdays and I can get the car then. Talked to my friend Robin who took me to the food stamp office today. She just lost her food stamps this month because her husband got a raise at work. She's going to go to the Angel Food as well.

How sad that help isn't more than that. I know as far as meds go, you can go to the drug company & they help.....I know for my pain medications, I have the patient assistance through them.......since the one med I am on for my pain medication runs over $1200/month, that is definitely a huge help. I am on disability already.....since 1995 & still qualify for the help from the drug company....I know you would also....you just have to apply to them & it comes through within a few weeks.

I know the struggle......even with being on disability, I couldn't afford the cost to live through the winter.

I know here in Harrodsburg, some of the churches have food cupboards that help with the food......the most important is the meds & I know that every drug company has assistance on that.....I am sure you qualify if you qualified for food stamps (even it that didn't amount to much).
