something i believe we all should be aware of for our own safety...

'What Is Organized Stalking?

Call it "an extra-judicial corrections system," where messy things like "evidence" and "trials" aren't necessary, and the system can go straight to the good stuff - punishment. '

Never heard of it before. Maybe worth paying attention to, but sounds like it is something that could be taken advantage of by conspiracy theorists easily. And to me, this does not increase its credibility:

"Theresa "Terri" Schindler, who died of judicially mandated organized stalking..."

i thought it was interesting how organized these systems are now with the invention of the net.. people can just prowl from site to site in groups and prey on those they find 'not their type'... its amazing that with the push of a button, large numbers of friends can appear and cause major havoc on the unsuspecting... i have no doubt it happens..

Nowhere...I'm not sure I understand what you're referring to, but I do think the Internet allows savvy people (would-be stalkers or organizations) to gain access to our files. I have no idea how they do this, but here's an example:
About a year ago, I posted on a forum devoted to withdrawal, weaning off Paxil, the antidepressant. I came here to PC to tell folks in the medications thread about it, and told the people on the Paxil site about PC as well. Some people here didn't like some of the things on this man's website about Paxil, and voiced their concerns. He came back and said I was a "troll," and that I had many user names on various websites. I do, in fact, have a different name on Yahoo, and on IMDB, where I post movie comments, as well as on Ebay where I sell art. How he knew this, I have no idea! But it was an awakening for me.
Prior to this incident, a couple of years before, I was using the same name on all websites, for convenience, I thought. Not a good idea. A simple search brought up all my posts on a personal forum, which I learned was being survailled by someone I had just met. It was so embarrassing and ended disastrously.
Really, anything we post here on the Internet is open for public viewing, I guess, though in my searches for security purposes, I haven't seen any of my posts here on PC show up on the open Internet.

im referring more to situations of citizen vigilantes.. im sorry this happened to you seeker and the invasions of our privacy is no fun... but specifically i am attempting to highlight the predicament members of communities such as PC might fall into if they are unaware of the deep organization these abusers have developed into...

the yahoo groups cited at the website are gathering places for such individuals who then branch out into the internet world .. as they discover websites to attack they relay messages amongst themselves and as needed more members join in the disruptive cycles they create, bringing the website to its virtual knees ...

Thanks for the information, NWTR. Organized Stalking

I've seen one such of these groups in action at another site and had to work with the situation as an admin. It was very difficult.

It's such a blessing that we've never seen the likes here at PC, and I don't expect to. One reason I don't expect to is because the members of this community watches its own and gets to admin quickly. With rapid response and the use of good tools, the situation can be quickly "controlled" to not proceed and damage.

It does happen, yes. I hasn't happened here, thankfully, and I don't expect it to get anywhere significant should any group try it. Again, that is a testament not only to the community team, but to its members. Organized Stalking

I'd like to add that there are some good ways to work with these situations...working together as members and team.

I know that it's always best NOT TO FEED any developing situation, but to PM admin and link them to problem posts/threads/pm's and give them any information you might have on the problem...including any awareness of this happening at other sites, etc.

When members act, but act in a coordinated fashion with admin, it helps so much.

If we ever have concerns about anything like this, please PM admin as opposed to responding and keep in touch with admin re: the concerns. Another reason this is a good idea is by the small chance that our concerns might not be realized. In this case, no one is hurt, etc.

Thanks again,

KD
