Just interested to know if anyone gets both SSI & disability? I applied for disability and when my social security caseworker called she said I should also apply for SSI so that I would be able to receive medicaid. Does anyone get both? Or just one or the other? Any info is helpful. The social security website is hard for me to understand. Just wanting to make sure I don't mess anything up that might delay the process.

to the best of my understanding, you can receive both. disability/ssdi is paid from the money you have paid in through payroll taxes. you will receive this even if you have a vacation home and stock portfolio. ssi is paid regardless of wether you have ever paid any payroll taxes in, and it is only paid to those who a. qualify as disabled(exact same determination as ssdi), and b. have low enough income/assets. you should definitly apply as there are other benefits that come with ssi if you qualify and the worst that can happen is they turn you down.

I applied 4 years ago online. My caseworker automatically submitted my application for both SS/SSI. I only receive Disability benefits because my monthly benefit is too high to receive the SSI benefit also. I had/have no assets (car, bank account, house, etc..).

Hope I wasn't too confusing.

This is my understanding also. Good luck, working with the government is a long process.

it depends on household income if you can get both. I was eligible for only a short period of time. like when I went from having workman's comp until I was actually approved for disability. they go on hubby's income to see if you qualify for ssi as well.
