So, I have a couple friends who have been approved for disability while they were working and making more than the limit. I am wondering if anybody here has had any luck applying and getting approved by having BOTH physical and mental illnesses? I spend my life going to doctors these days (just got myself another 2 specialists today disability Q (again)) and I think I have a pretty good case, between the chronic illnesses (that's plural) and the really, really lengthy psych history. Just wondering, though.

I don't know anything about disability stuff, but I definitely think it's worth looking into. I think you have a good case for it. Maybe talk to a lawyer about it and see if he/she can help you through the process. Good luck! Keep us posted. disability Q (again)

I am on disability and still employed (although not working, they pay for my medication). If and when I am ready to return to work there is a job waiting for me. I am from Canada, so it may be different from where you are, but here I get a monthly amount, and when I return to work have up to 6 months to return back to disability if the same problems occur. I am off work for panic disorder and agoraphobia. Recently have developed medical issues too.

Hope this helps.

Oh and here you are allowed to make up to $4,400. per year without your benefits being deducted, but anything over that your disability is deducted. I guess it all depends on the disability.

Each year a form is sent out, a legal document, that has you list and sign as to how much money you've made in the previous year, or if you have made anything etc. Maybe they aren't being honest on those forms? Is any of their income not reported by the employer? disability Q (again) Anything I were to make beyond my benefits, is reportable...but I can only wish I had other income and could work.

Why not ask them how they are able to do that??? disability Q (again)

go to www.ssa.gov and do some research. they wont approve you if you are working, but that sight has all the info for what physical and mental conditions they will approve you for. you can talk to an attorney, but you are better off starting the process yourself and only resorting to an attorney if you get denied at first. i am currently in the appeals process because my mental problems are not well enough documented.

My husband is on disability for mental and physical disabilities. His is quite saver. His arm is paralyzed due to several broken vertebra and he had a really bad head injury. He had problems being approved even with his very obvious physical disability and everything was well documented. He went into the social security office and someone help him get through the process, some people do care. He has been on it for seven year and probably will be for the rest of his life. The funny thing is that he was approved because of mental disabilities not physical (so a man who only has use of one arm, who's previous job was climbing communication towers was not determined physically disabled). He does not work he can't, all though he wants to in the worst way (he doesn't feel like a man if he can't bring home the bacon, (ex-special forces)). Good luck.
