I have one of two choices.

The path of gustav has not changed in 3 days. It is still predicted to be a direct hit. First as a Cat 3, now as a Cat 2. Mandatory evaucations start on saturday. Contraflow begins that morning. I have reservations in Jackson, Miss for monday and tuesday. It can still change paths, but i dont want anyone else affected by this.

But, do i want to go? NO. I'm thinking i am going to stay. I stocked up on supplies today and will finish tomorrow. I got the generator up and ready.

Will there be a surge, more than what we have left of the levees to hold? I dont know. Only the govt and corps of engineers knows. And no, that information will not be passed on. At least not to us. But we do assume.

If i stay, i may end up going down with my roots.

My mind is confused now. I not only have this to deal with, but other things.

I dont know why im writing this here. I just have to get it out. I have so many feeling and emotions running through me. And they continue to battle each other.

Thank you for listening

I can only imagine the feeling going through you right now along with all the thoughts. I'm so glad to know that you have made reservations away from home "just in case". Please know I support you in your decision but I really hope you decide to be safe......I know it's hard to leave your home...again....I do understand that. To me, your safety is more important than staying and toughing it out....when you have the opportunity to get through this in a safe place.

Be well chalm....know my thoughts and prayers are with you and all the others.

Thats my thought on the whole thing. Its not in the gulf yet. If i make a decision to leave and its still on the direct hit path. It would be sunday night. And thats only if the surge from the storm is above 6 feet.

Thank you all. I will let you know as i know.

chalmette, I hope you remain safe. My son is flying out to the Dominian republic next sunday and I've told him of the deaths there in the last couple of days. This really will be a practise of "letting go".

Thinking of you.

I don't know what your travel arrangments might be, but it seems that I would leave town if I could ... going would be an adventure and it would put you in a place of safety ... from a guyz perspective, safer is always better ... well, unless you're a risk taker and just want to see how much hardship you can endure...

I dont know what to say right now ya'll. I'm in shock. I know its still way out there. But the track continues to stay on us. On the radio a little bit ago, they said st bernard and plaquemine parishes be prepared for a 10-12 foot storm surge with the waves atop that. They said there wont be a st bernard or plaquemine parish to come home to this time. They are starting evacuations tomorrow and on saturday it will be mandatory. We've extended the hotel reservations a few more days. Will wait till its in the gulf to see if the track will move. If not, i just dont know. Fema announced the only help they will give this time is supplies to shelters. National Guard has been called in for preparation. Barges are being placed all along the industrial canal. So right there we know the corps of engineers plan on breaking the levee wall to flood the 9th ward and st bernard again, in order to save the city. Gas lines, bank lines, grocery lines are all a mile long. Most gas stations are running out of gas and grocery stores, well you cant find water anywhere, yet batteries either.

Theres a calm in the air here.

If only it would break down some and not grow more than what it is.

(((Chalmette)))) as one storm survivor to another....

PLEASE PLAN TO EVACUATE. If things change for the better, it's easy to just not go.

But, you have been through enough. I know you want to stay, but I think that is part of the denial of how bad it could be again. As the storm gets closer, if it should go to LA, you will become more anxious, and possibly not be able to make any safe decisions.

Get on the list to leave now, let them call you, and in the meantime, prepare to go. Please.

Even if you stay and there's no big impact environmentally, you will still have a reaction psychologically...and it just is NOT worth it. It's better to leave and then lie to yourself afterwards thinking you may not have had to.

One of two choices One of two choices Please.

According to us locally, we still have the evacuations started today. With the mandatory evacs tomorrow and the contraflow being started by the state police.

From what i'm seeing on the updates is that the storm will graze the coast around houma and head in not that far west of lafayette, intercoastal city. Or maybe even Iberia (home of Tobasco Sauce).

One local meterologist that works with a private company, here in st bernard. Insists it will pass either the tip of cuba or just along the coast, which puts it closer to the west of the cone of error. He says his predictions, which have been on the dot so far, is that the wind shear in the gulf and the high coming down will push it into or very near the Galveston area up towards Houston. He said it will be another Katrina or even worse. He says that NOAA has it only as a strong Cat 3 when making landfall, but his predictions have it at a strong Cat 4 - to low Cat 5.

Whoever this storm hits along the coast will not be good at all.

Since Katrina i've lost faith in just about everything, yes even God. But late last night, standing by the side gate and looking at my neighbors houses, I said a prayer. I know all along the Louisiana coastline the parishes are all going under mandatory evacs. I'm praying that Texas is doing the same. I hope Galveston heeds to the warnings. The storm they got in 1900, i think the year was. Was the worst natural disaster in history. Everyone needs to leave from there. And everyone east of that area. Houston has had problems with flooding for so many years and i hope our governor is doing what he said and sending some of our buses over there to help them evacuate those who have no transportation. Only 7000 out of 31000 from the city signed up to take a bus out. So there are many extra buses here. Our governor also has trains and planes to evacuate. I hope what we can send to the Galveston/Houston area gets to them.

Ya'll pray for them all. There is going to be so much lose wherever this hits.

Sky and everyone else. If the storm does decide to come back at us. We will most likey evacuate, but our decision wont be made till sometime sunday evening. That would give us a little more than 24 hours to beat the storm.

I'll keep you all updated as to what is going on with gustav. But im sure you are all keeping tuned in also to it. thank you all and keep your thoughts and prayers out there not for me, but the others.

Chalmette

Chal ,, I know we haven' t spoke in a while ,,

Dahling ,,, I will share a quick thought here with you ... A trauma that I could have avoided ,, that did life changing damage to my knee joint of one of my legs >>.....totally took my career choice and chucked it into the never to be basket.

If I would have known then ,, what I have had to live with all my life since that moment ,,, I would have done the complete opposite .
