http://www.rockinghorseranch.ca/about.htm

I just emailed to apply to volunteer at this locally situated ranch. It is a rescue center mostly for horses, but also for other animals as well.

I think it would be very beneficial to me. Althogh I can't ride due to my physical limitations, i can spend time with the animals, and partake in caring for them(things like brushing the horses, leading them on walks, cleaning out stalls ect) and i think it would be really fun!

The other exciting thing is they do animal therapy, so i may have that as an option as well. Apparently the woman who does it is very kind and caring as is everyone at the ranch. I am excited!

Rain, this decision of yours really touches me. I think its awesome what your wanting to do here. I hope they hire you as a volunteer. I think you would be a great volunteer working with the animals. Thats one thing you have to have a big heart for.

I put you up high on my list of respect and compassion. This position will put you in a league of some very special people.

I say this becuase of my personnal experience with animal volunteers who did search and rescues after the storm and the many that spent months helping us look for Cleo and other families search for their pets. They all were volunteers at local shelters around the world, etc.

I shake your hand and thank you for deciding to spend your time caring for those who cant take care of themselves. You deserve a round of applause and many hugs.

love

You are going to love it so, so much. It's hard work but the enjoyment & getting to be with the animals can't be beaten. I started volunteering at a local horse rescue last year and it's one of the best things I've ever done. I love animals way more than people and feel much safer around them & trust them a lot more than I do people, so being around them helps me a lot. They come from awful backgrounds & situations, have horrible horrible stories and are in unimaginable horrible horrible body shape, but you'll get endless rewards out of loving on them & helping to care for them & turn them back into their beautiful selves. And treating them with the love & respect they should have gotten & deserved in the first place.

I've been amazed at my capabilities with it too. I am NOT a morning person and I'm the type that gets cold if it's below 80. But rain or shine, wind or snow, thunderstorms or ice, I'm out there helping to take care of those beautiful creatures. I used to ride and miss it like mad but don't have a horse and can't afford lessons, so it's also a wonderful way for me to still get to be around horses. The horses can sense when you're sad and they'll make you feel better too. Plus seeing their faces always makes me smile. They can make me laugh without even trying; their mannerisms, personalities, habits, they're funny when you get to know them. Such beautiful mystic creatures, you're embarking on a wonderful thing!

Chalm, omg you made me tear up! Thank you so much.

I do it because for me its like you say, they can't help themselves, and what little I am able to do will in some way help. These animals have been through it all and deserve love and affection and a good life.

Thanks for speaking so highly of me, i really appreciate it.

I am so saddened by the loss of animals with the hurricane. It was one of the parts i kept in touch with the most. I can't imagine the heartache you went through as did other animal owners. And not to mention the animals left to fend for themselves. so sad
