Not sure if this is the right forum, anyhow, I thought I'd give you all an update on what's happening with me.
I had an interview to work back in Mental Health last week. I went before a panel of VIPs. It was a job I have done before, mainly group therapy but it was only a band 3 job. Anyhow, I have waited nervously all week to find out the result of that. Well, I didn't get the job because they say I'm too academically qualified! And they felt that it wouldn't be challenging enough for me and would be frustrating for me. I sound like a right big head! They told me the level I should be going for, I have always been at the bottom of the pile and now I'm being told to go for the big guns. All very flattering but it still leaves me unemployed. I do feel shocked.

Good for you for trying for this job. It is always good to go for a job that is not all that interesting to you first to give you practice interviewing. I will pray that you will find a job, which is a perfect fit for you. Keep us posted on your progress. EJ

I have applied for several others and wasn't sure what level I should be going in at. I learnt a lot from that interview.

I'm sorry that you are still unemployed but I'm ever so glad that you were able to learn from this interview and the information the VIP's gave you. Now you can truly know what kind of job you are qualified for and you can go for the gold! Keeping my fingers crossed that something grand will come your way very very soon my friend!  sabby |

I hate when others tell us what we'll feel! I had that happen to me, applied to a job and was told I was "over qualified" and would get bored. I wanted to ask if they secretly thought I was an idiot since I'd applied for the job and thought I knew what I wanted for myself? Like I didn't know my own mind.
But I'm reminded of the backlash on the "Have a Happy Day" expression that goes, "Don't tell me what kind of day to have!" Hope you find something that works soon.

Well, I'm truly in shock, I have just received a phone call from someone very high up, telling me to apply for Band 6 jobs. I feel very emotional...

if someone high up is telling you to go for a band 6 place........ then you go for it lady... YOU CAN DO IT !!! you are a great person and friend, you know you can do that job so go for it ......

We are often the last ones to know just how valuable we are Peg...
 For some reason or another we can see the truth in others far easier than ourselves... It is good that people are telling you what real value you have... Now all you have to do is trust it... BTW...I agree with them... Good luck dear Lady.. Lenny

I'm not quite sure what the "bands" mean, but I take it from your post that it's really something good! I can well imagine the emotions hon.....Keeping my fingers crossed for you and sending you positive vibes!

Well, a band 6 job would change my whole life (and my family), it is the stuff of dreams, and to do the job that I truly love and enjoy and what I have worked so hard toward. I didn't do things the conventional way and have had to battle my way from the depths of hell.
ok, ok, I haven't got the job yet, but didn't even know I was qualified enough to do. Now I know, and I need to keep moving forward. Deep breaths...

I know it can sometimes be a little scary to apply for jobs that we thought were outside our reach, but if you're being encouraged to do so - go for it. And as for your last interview, it never hurts to have a practice interview. Keeping my fingers crossed that you find something you like soon. --splitimage
