It used to be in all the major rental joints' foreign film sections, but it's a few years old now. If you have an outlet that specializes in other than main stream titles, might be a better bet. Good luck. I'm just sure you will like it.

One of my favorite movies of all times is a documentary! It's called "My Architect" and is set in the most beautiful city in the world, Philadelphia. It's about Louis Kahn, the legendary Philadelphia architect who had the temperament of an artist, and maintained two illegitimate families apart from his official wife and daughter. Nathaniel Kahn, the director and creator of the documentary is his son. Louis Kahn dropped dead in the men's lavatory of Penn Station in New York in 1974, bankrupt, and lay unclaimed in the city morgue for three days. His practice was over half a million dollars in debt.

Nathaniel was the offspring of the second mistress, now a respected architect in her own right. Louis embarked on an affair when he was 61 and Nathaniel's mother in her early 30s, and only visited the infant Nathaniel infrequently. His mother and he were treated with arctic coldness at the funeral. But before he died, Louis had crossed his home address out on his passport, something that has always made Nathaniel wonder if he was planning on coming to live with him and his mother (he was a child when his father died).

What touched me so much about the documentary was the tenacity Nathaniel has in reclaiming his late father's memory and his own family status, through a pilgrimage to Kahn's buildings, some great, some not so great. And he's got sibling-rivalry issues, not with his half-sisters but with his father's favored children - those great slabs of bricks and stone. I'm also a big Andy Warhol fan and Louis Kahn looked strikingly like a gnomic, wizened Andy Warhol! It's just a beautifully filmed movie, and the Salk institute Kahn designed in California is probably the most stunning.

Heh, for some movies you've probably never seen, try Damnation Alley I think Steve McQueen was in it, but I could be completely wrong about that, Phase IV, I have no idea who was in it, and Billy Jack was a cult classic type thing with Tom Laughlin playing the lead role. If you can find them, they are worth a watching...

okay, no AH! not my style.
But Double Jeopardy was a fabulous movie. I love Ashley Judd. She's so beautiful and talented. I've seen all the others too, but none of them left a real big impression on me. Twister had great special affects, but Helen Hunt rubs me the wrong way.
thanks for the input. TgrsPurr

Hi Tgrspurr:

I'm so glad you want to check it out! It's definitely out on DVD so if you are in a somewhat biggish city your local vid store will probably have it. Hope you find it (have some hankies nearby--I cried during it; there were some sad parts). tc

Another one of my favorite movies is "Cyrano de Bergerac". (the 1990 version with Gerard Depardieu). The whole poet/soldier embarrassed by his appearance and romancing a woman by proxy is intriguing. The sets, costumes and battles scenes are terrific as well.
