I am having difficulties coping with the demands of school.

In one class, I'm assigned into a lab group that is 80% of my grade for the class. Our group waits until the last minute to begin assignments. They are driving me more insane!!!

For all my classes, I have difficulties writing papers because I'm either bored, distracted, or dissociating. I waste so many hours staring at my computer doing nothing.

I receive low tests scores because I study the wrong information.

I'm having doubts to whether any graduate school will accept me into their program. Most programs only accept less than 10% of students applying. I have NEVER been in the top 10% of anything in my life.

School is so important to me but the frustration level is so high. It's a constant fight for me to not hurt myself or not quit school.

How do people with disabilities persevere and obtain their goals?

How does one know if one can be successful in graduate school, if there are soooo many problems in undergraduate school?

Any suggestions? Struggling student (mental health issues)

Do you have a counseling center at your school? Or a learning assistance center? It certainly does sound like you are struggling, and there should be help available to you.

I've struggled with motivational problems and difficulty concentrating in school, too. It's not easy. I hope you are able to take advantage of any available resources.

And welcome to PC.

Um, I see the welcome is a bit late, as you are a veteran member.

But nice to see you, anyway. Struggling student (mental health issues)

Hi there, sorry to hear you are going through rough times, I was wondering if you ever had a chance to talk to a school counselar, sometimes they can help give you some insight. Sounds like the pressure is hitting on you, have you ever spoke to a therapist?
When I was in college, I had a huge struggle with algebra and then pre-calc, my professor was a wonderful woman, she was puzzled at how I worked out certain equations (sp?), she even asked if I had a learning disability with math, I told her I wasn't offended by her asking me this, cause she was so warm and sincere, she was curious cause she had seen this type of thing over the years, so I went for extra help and sometimes she was able to be my tutor which helped me more, she was great, I finally made it with a "C", but yet I got "A"'s in all other subjects, even made honors twice in the same year. Oh, now computer class at 10pm was not fun, I forgot this was the other only class I got a "C" in.
What I am trying to share, and disregard this if it doesn't apply, is maybe all you need is some guidance, someone of the faculty to see if this is a similar issue, some of us learn and retain things differently, when you are lucky like I was to have help like this, it makes all the difference, some of us are better at visual learning than verbal (verbal, I tend to drift off sometimes) and vice versa.
This doesn't mean anyone is dumb either, our minds process things in individual ways with some subjects.
Okay, I rambled on enough, ha!ha! But I hope I was able to offer some help.
Please take care now,

DE

I, too, suggest seeing a school counselor...do you have a certain teacher that is your "guide" for your major? That would be a good resource also.....good luck, pat

Purebugg, it was a struggle for me too with my depression and trying to go to school.

That was years ago and never having finished college is such a big regret for me now.

I know it's hard where you are now at this point but you don't want to have to live with such a regret.

Please, stay in school!

thanks for your replies . . . gardenergirl . . . darkeyes . . . fayerody . . . Isolated_Guy

I'll find out if my school has a counseling center. Mabye I can be tested for a learning disability. (Oh no, not a-n-o-t-h-e-r diagnosis.) I have difficulty "talking" about my problems with school -- I start crying and then get embarrassed. I prefer not to talk to any of my teachers I have this semester.

I do see a therapist and a marriage counselor. Neither offer much help with my school stress. My therapist will say nice things to encourage me, but it doesn't help my stress any.

I'm in the same boat you are, but my stress is more from outside of school. I'm skipping class at this moment. I was planning to go to this class because I had to go to court earlier and had to miss my regular class time--and a test. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{purebugg}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
