I have PTSD,Major depression,Anxiety, fatigue,PCS,Tinnitus, vestibular problems, sleep problems, chronic pain bulging disks and herniated disk, jaw problems, and probably some I am forgetting lol I have a long list all from a car accident.I started to see results the first time. I am going on 5th session next week. They tell you to try 3 times at least. Some people see results and some do not.I love it!Every week I go I get more and more improvements. If you can find a "Community Service"provider you can get services for cheaper than any medicine....That's what I found a "community service provider" otherwise it can be expensive.

I took my dad one time with me and he did not feel anything. But then I took my mom and she felt it on first time....I think also to be a believer in it might have a better result IDK.

It cannot hurt you to try!Wish you the best

i have had acupuncture by 3 different practitioners and 2 were really good, the third was basically a waste of money... i don't know how to explain it, ,but when it was good, it was very very good~!

and oh yah, they are wires, not needles, and they DO NOT hurt~! (unless one misses it's mark :P , whereupon they just pluck it out and the hurt is over).

i've had it for back pain (stopped for 2 yrs); stopping smoking (a complete success in 2 treatments); OCD's and Phobias (side effect of the stop smoking treatments~ astonishing!); whiplash agony (got me thru til i could get on pain pills,,, had pill insurance), and weight loss (lost 8 inches around the middle by walking, no weight loss,, but i was happy).

it's worth the try, esp. for stopping smoking~!

i've been doing acupuncture 1 - 2 times a week for 5 or 6? weeks now. i went with my main wish for treatment help w/ the depression & anxiety, and then would also love to secondarily work on poor circulation, limbs falling asleep, and some painful body parts.

the place i go is a school of acupuncture that has a clinic. it's a wonderful place, they take their time with you & really get to know you and talk with you and learn what's going on every time. so i really trust them.

i can't say i've felt any "improvement" in the depression from the acupuncture - or from anything else for that matter (no improvement at all) but i really like going there - so for me that a plus - it's the only thing in life i like right now these 1 - 2 hrs a week. and i know that it's good for me.

also, they've explained to me that much like medications or any other sort of treatment, it's a program of treatment.

they did cupping on me for the first time last week and i suddenly had all this energy, it felt like something had been lifted / released, and it was a wonderful feeling.

oh, and my problem with my limbs falling asleep HAS improved! so that's good. they also do chinese herbs here, and i started taking the herbs to help blood building as well as going for the acupuncture.
Thanks for this!

I went for acupuncture the first time this morning, for addiction (alcohol) treatment, as it's supposed to curb cravings as well as just generally relax you. I don't know.

It was 5 needles in each ear - one ear, I couldn't feel them at all, and in the other ear, they didn't hurt exactly more like I could feel pressure around each one. It definitely didn't relax me. But I did start feeling really sad, and couldn't stop crying all afternoon so who knows.

I'm definitely going to try it for a few weeks as I know lots of people from my rehab who found it really helpful.

I'm super lucky - I'm in a pilot project that's funded by public healthcare.

I've not had acupuncture before but I do hold a very high opinion of it going by other people's experiences. I have had shiatsu, twice, and the results were amazing. I had both sessions in late pregnancy when anxiety became too much to cope with and I had to be extra careful with medication. I went in the first time a complete wreck, I was utterly miserable and felt constantly on the verge of a panic attack every waking moment of every day. When I came out, I had the biggest smile on my face I'd ever had and I felt no anxiety at all. It felt as if it all just melted away and I was so peaceful. It lasted a few weeks without more sessions. Sadly, I couldn't afford to go back because we had to move house so we were broke.
Now that I'm not pregnant I would love to give acupuncture a go!

Gracez, that sudden energy you describe - I had that with my second session of shiatsu. I didn't feel it with the first. But it was very strange, I felt completely relaxed one minute then in the next it felt as if all this energy build up was trying to escape through my front! I can't say I was comfortable with it, purely because I'd never felt it before.

Acupuncture has continued to help me. I love on the left hand on outside it is for Euphoria!!! It has helped my headaches, moods, speech, pain, clarity, allergies, getting off smoking, so much I cannot put all of them.

Google in your city for Community Acupuncture and you can get it for as little as $15

Webgoji loves him some acupuncture. Not for anything special, just seems to leave me feeling good. Kinda like donating blood or meditation.

I e looked into 2 places & neither have depression on their list of things it can help. Does that mean they don't treat it? Is there something special to tell them for mental problems? Both also said their intake appt is very short & little talking. How do I tell them what I need? How long will it take?
Thanks for this!

each treatment takes about an hour, in my experience. they check your "energy levels" on your wrists, and other joints, so they don't need you to tell them what's wrong. then they adjust the energy pattern by changing the levels of passage of energy thru various 'points' or crossroads of nerve bundles.

very rarely will a good acupuncturist hit a point that hurts, more often it has no feeling at all, or feels good. i had excellent results with the reduction of my OCD's, Phobias and Anxieties with acupuncture... i hope you consider it ~

Anyone any idea of costs in the UK? My 87 year old grandma swears she wouldn't still be walking if she hadnt had it years ago (she has arthritis. In fact she's the starting point of it in my family, came from her to my mum to me :/)

I'm really self conscious though and conscious about my weight.

Does it still work if you're overweight? Like do the wires still hit the spots they're supposed to or will extra fat stop them working?

Do you ask for one area to concentrate on? Because I have various things I could really do with help for at the moment & am interested.

Also how do you know they're good vs the bad ones some people say they've had? Is there a board they register with? Or qualifications?

I do not know the cost in the UK but I am pretty sure you can find a community acupuncturist that will be cheaper and same quality as an other high dollar acupuncturist. Weight does not matter and actually that is one thing it can help you with along with thousands of other things...

Finding a good acupuncturist is like finding a good pair of shoes lol you test one out for awhile and see if it is a fit and if not then you try another. I think the first thing to see results is to believe in the acupuncture and focus on meditation or breathing techniques.

The acupuncture will help your conscious in your weight. I have multiple areas to focus on so I started with the worst for me which is chronic pain and mental stability and then add more as you go.

yes you want to ask questions about their backgrounds of schooling, how many years in field etc. And make sure always use new wires!!!

Hope you try it out and come back to let us know after a few times how it goes...It takes more than once to see results. I was such a mess I could barely walk and talk and surrendered to acupuncture at my lowest and I started seeing results first day(kind of rare)

Hope you find relief in acupuncture

I loved accupuncture for pain. Muscle, disc, etc. Worked great. I just wish I could afford it so I could go again. I live with chronic pain.

I'd like to try for IBS and mood swings.

I had it for about a year. I think the practioner that I had was not good. I did not get any psychiatric results. I would try it again with a different practioner someone who knows what they are doing. When I told the guy that worked on me that it was not working he said I had a very difficult syndrome and that is why.
Thanks for this!

Yes Tapering you need to try out a few to find a fit. I got lucky with both of my acupuncturist and I pay on a sliding scale. Google Community Acupuncture in your city. Wish you well

I went to acupuncture for a couple of months and overall I found other treatments more immediately viable, in particular yoga. It felt cool, sensational, to get acupuncture, but it did not, in my opinion relieve my symptoms of IBS, jaw clenching/pain, and general tension, as much as yoga has. Also I believe diet has cured/can cure many of these symptoms.

I understand that everyone has their personal fits for diagnosis. I personally cannot do much yoga because of back problems and pain issues. I am happy yoga works good for you.Relief is good however a person can get it.
