I have bipolar disorder I wasn't able to work before I took 2,000 mg's of omega threes a day. Now after starting them and being on them consistently (8 pills a day for two moths) I now doze off easier. I was even able to get a job which I hadn't been able to do before. I also find my mood has improved and I'm more cheerful. Coincidence? I think not. I read that the reason is because the brain is 60 percent fatty tissue and also there are gaps between nerve cells that greasy omega 3 fatty acid chains pad and help the brain function smoother, sort of like a natural antiepileptic. Anyone else have a life changing experience on Omega 3's? I have had success both taking them on their own and in conjuction with other meds.Your success story, failure?

That's really good news! I can't tell you if it is a coincidence because I have no experience with omega 3 that way. I wonder if it is possible you had a deficiency and you are now treating it essentially. That would be fantastic if true. Because if it could be used as a med like that I think there would be a lot more stories out there. Could you look up foods that supply omegas? Do you eat those foods regularly? If not maybe you just aren't metabolizing it... I am totally guessing here. Definitely something to discuss with doctor and or nutritionist.

The reason I mentioned a deficiency is omega 3 doesn't work for everyone with Bp. There could be many reasons for that including misdiagnosis considering how many people are diagnosed that way. But it would be curious if you were making up for lack of natural omega 3.

Most mentally ill take omega 3 fish oil, my wife takes it and she is not ill . That seems a lot you taking and I would not think it does what you are experiencing or it would be the 8th wonder of the world. I mean we take fish oil for joint pain but it don't oil your joints I wish it did . but hey go for it

You may also want to look into NAC. It's an amino acid/ antioxidant that has had some good results for people with various psychiatric conditions.
