Has it ever happened to anyone else where early on in your ECT treatments you felt better temporarily after a treatment? The day after my 3rd treatment I felt slightly better - - but just for the day. After my 4th treatment, I felt better for 1-1/2 days after the treatment. This is very frustrating to me, having a glimpse of feeling a little bit better only to have it all taken away eventually. Just curious to know if this was the course of things for anyone else who's had ECT.

I don't have an answer as I have not done ECT but I am curious if you've had any side effects? Like memory loss?
I am thinking of ECT if a few other options do not pan out, which it's looking that way unfortunately. Sent using Tapatalk

I've had just some slight problems with short-term memory, nothing major at all. No other side effects besides headache and kind of tired the day of.

Good do hear. Does it affect your short term memory in the long term or only during treatments?

It took a while for the ECT to take effect, but I had it to get out of a deep depressive episode. Since that time I have had other episodes - none to the degree that led me to ECT on the first place - and I've been able to get through them with extra sessions and a change in meds.
Unfortunately, ECT is not a cure. It is a short term treatment. Sorry I don't have better news for you. |

In the moment, maybe it worked for a little bit, but in the long run, not worth it for me. There are SO many medications I could have tried before resorting to ECT (and I DID try after ECT). It was not worth the side effects for me. |

My understanding is that it affects the short-term memory primarily during treatment, not sure though.
