I love Yogi tea...so delicious. I recently bought a new flavor called Perfect Energy-Vanilla Spice. It is soooo good but I'm having a weird reaction to it...within about 30 minutes of drinking it, I start to feel a bit strange. A little unsettled and just overall weirdness, plus I feel a bit drunk. Nothing too extreme but to a noticable effect. The thing that does puzzle me is my pupils dilate..and I'm talking REALLY dilate...even shining a light directly into them barely contracts them. It will stay this way for about an hour or so.
Below are the ingredients, which I have looked up...my only idea would be that the L-Theanine is raising my dopamine levels, which can cause dilated pupils...or maybe the Ashwagandha?? Not sure. Any ideas? I'm not on any medications or supplements. I have Bipolar II and OCD. I contacted the company but haven't heard anything back yet. Vanilla Spice Perfect Energy® Ingredients Supplement Facts Assam Black Tea » Cinnamon Bark » Green Tea Leaf » Rooibos Leaf (Redbush) » Honeybush » Green Tea Leaf Extract » Ginger Root » Licorice Root » Stevia Leaf » Gotu Kola » Ashwagandha » Shatavari Root » Shankpushpi Leaf » L-Theanine Suntheanine® » Vanilla Bean » |

I think your best bet is to wait until the company sends you an answer to your question. It would be hard for anyone to guess which of the ingredients is causing you the problem since every body is different.

That's strange, that would scare me. Keep us updated.

They emailed me back. Well, they were very kind and offered me my money back and free product (ones that I didn't have that effect) but they said that this would be a question for my doctor. I can understand that. They don't know if I'm looking to sue them or something...which I absolutely am not. I love their other teas and my husband drank this tea to no ill effect. I guess it will remain a mystery. Still, very weird, right?

If you do a search on "yogi tea allergic reaction" you can find quite a few people complaining about problems with the tea. I only took a quick look and didn't see any that sounded like yours, but you might want to check.

If you are sensitive to caffeine the ingredients you listed have tons of caffeine which might be why. It might also be a reaction to your meds so talk to your doctors.
Personally I'm not a fan of yogi tea because the founder (Yogi Bhajan) has a history of abusing others ![]() |
