I did 11 ECTs and they seemed to work but I started to have memory issues so we stopped. Now that we have stopped my depression symptoms are starting to return. So we have increased my meds to try to help. So far that is not working and the suicidal thoughts have returned. All I want to do is eat and lay in bed. I have gained 20 pounds so far. Should I try the ECT again?

Hello Crook32: I'm so sorry you're having this difficulty. I never had ECT. It was suggested at one point, but the idea scared me. So I didn't do it. I have heard other people who have had it say that it affected their memory. Whether or not you should have more is a difficult decision. I think it is really something you'll need to talk over with your pdoc. A second opinion might also not be a bad idea, if you can get it. I wish you the best with this...

I do ECT every 2 weeks and have for the past 2 yrs.....I'm guess I'm afraid to stop. I have had some memory issues from in the past but short term memory doesn't seem to be affected. I can still do my job right after having a treatment, which is the most important thing to me. I did go 6 weeks without a treatment and really regretted it. I still take my meds and do therapy but I have to say that ECT has literally saved my life.

I had memory problems during ECT, particularly the first time through, but they only lasted while I was actually undergoing treatment (and they were not unexpected). The second time I went through ECT I had fewer memory issues. Both times through the ECT was very much life-saving for me. I hated having to do it, but it is something I would do again if (heaven forbid) I ever find myself in that dire condition once more. |

Still having some memory issues. My doctor increased my Prozac and that has helped a little bit. Still having the suicidal thoughts though and am thinking about whether or not it would be worth doing another round of ECT.
I just have trouble focusing and concentrating on things. I find no joy in anything. I find myself just wishing that I didn't exist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Maybe I should do some more ECT. I was so much better with it. Just if it wasn't for the damn memory issues.
