After 11 years of suffering I'm trying to use essential oils. Right now the depression is bad. Addiction is out of control yet in control. so I'm trying essential oils. Today I will diffuse Orange for a bit and see if that helps. and I am trying a few others to see if it help.
If you know a little bit more than I do. please chime in anytime. |

What are you trying to use the Orange specifically for?
While I am no professional aromatherapist I do use essential ois and have some knowledge. Orange (and most other citrus oils): anti-depressant As orange oil is uplifting it wouldn't be the best sleep aid or relaxing agent. |

Puzzle, I have been using armatherapy specifically as a coping strategy for my mental health since late last year. Some people have said it's just a placebo effect; but, does that matter? If you are feeling better regardless then it in fact is working.
I have come to use essential oils for physical health too. As for mental health, I think your kit should include: a citrus, frankincense, lavender, and peppermint. I also like cinnamon. Depression- citrus, lavender, frankincense, peppermint Anxiety - lavender (I actually take a rollon around with me and daub it on my wrists when needed) Oils I find very soothing include Cinnamon, Thieves, and Bergamot |

it is well documented that the olfactory sense (smell) is one of, if not THE most basic, profoundly affective sense. sadly, most of us are trained to not use it, to not notice smells, and to ignore the ones we do notice. aroma therapy is actually one way to change the brain chemistry; that's why we feel better.
personally, i like incense. it's brief, intense and smokey ![]() https://desertperfumes.com/ if you are interested in trying custom blends, let me just say: they are very sweet~! i like one of the blends called "Christ Scent". it is said to have been created to replicate the aroma of a visitation. at any rate, you can get these exquisite oils from only one place that i know of (i hope they are still in business), a church in Sedona, Arizona: phone - 1-888-453-6324. Circle Of Life | Product Categories Archive | Sacred Oils finally, for a more evocative selection, there are some lovely 'test kits' of various memorable aromas at: Sample Oil Sets : Essential Trading Post, Scenting the World with Oils! thanks for reminding me of the benefits of olfactory therapy ![]() ![]() |

Try to stick to essential oils and avoid scented oils (there is a difference), perfumes, scented candles, and even incense. There are some recent studies showing some adverse effects they can have (like asthma, lung damage, and tumours). Air fresheners have formaldehyde.
The label should say pure. Sometimes an oil may be adulterated (diluted with carrier oil). These are generally cheaper. I have a few, they just don't last as long though as I have to use more. Young Living and Doterra are good recognized brands available over the internet but I have also found some I am happy with at my local health food store for a fraction of the price. Again look for the words 'pure' and 'therapeutic grade' on the lable. |

I use lavender when I'm really anxious or in a mixed episode or having trouble sleeping. I have bp I. I also really like some of the citris ones for depression.
But lavender really calms me. I put a few drops on a cotton ball and lay it next to me. |

yes, lavender is my go to for anxiety or to promote sleep. I have a roll-on oil which I apply to my wrists or even beneath my nose.
