My gp recently ordered blood work to check out a possible problem with my liver, that could have been caused by bone problems, so she ordered a vitamin D levels test.

She said that I have the lowest vitamin D levels that she'd ever seen in an otherwise health person and wants me to take 10,000 Iu a day.

I wonder if this will positively affect my mood as I know several people who take vitamin D and say it has a positive impact on them.

@splitimage I am sorry to hear you suffer from low Vitamin D level. That vitamin helps our immune system fight off disease I heard.

Not sure how it will affect your mood. Let us know what you find. @CANDC

I recently started d3 - a month or 2 ago? - and i am starting to feel like my old (young!) self again, but i have made other changes also - taking insulin, checking my blood sugar and blood pressure more often, exercising more, going to bed earlier. But the d3 started before all these other things, so... and i am the original lady curmudgeon.

Looking forward to hearing how it works for you

For the first time in my life a doctor ordered a vitamin D test along with other blood labs. My D came out low, so I started taking D3. Vitamin D deficiency can affect mood, immune system function, and if it is severe vitamin D deficiency can cause bone disorders, such as rickets. No joke.

I had also noticed that my hair was coming out. My hair is thick, so the loss didn't "show" but when I combed it after washing there was way too much hair loss. My daughter had a vitamin D deficiency some years ago and also experienced hair loss - in fact, that was why she went to the doctor.

As for mood, I don't think I've noticed a change - but it's so hard to tell when I'm on several meds already.

I live fairly north of the equator where low vitamin D levels are the usual and I too have to take vitamin D supplements. Not sure how much they help mood because like Beth I'm on other meds as well but I figure having normal vit. D levels is a healthy thing.
